What Type of Bottles Do You Recommend?

I plan to breastfeed but when I am out in public or company is over or we are visiting somewhere with our baby, I plan to pump and bring everything in bottles. I am starting to work on my registry and am starting to buy things myself and I was just wondering what bottles do you all recommend for those of you that have already had children?

Re: What Type of Bottles Do You Recommend?

  • We used the evenflo glass bottles :) DD never had any issue taking them. Maybe register for a few different types. Same with pacifiers if you plan to use them.

  • I've heard great things about Dr Brown's bottles. They do have lots of parts to clean but I think it is what we will try.

  • We had the tommee tipee anticolic ones because my daughter had major gas issues when we bottle feed

  • I loved the Dr. Browns with both of my boys

I knew if a few I liked before I was pregnant with my first because I managed a daycare for 12 years. People love dr browns, but I always hated them. Honestly, I really don't think bottles do what they say they do. It's more about which one your baby likes and is willing to use. It's a good idea to have a couple different types on hand.

I used avent natural for our son and hopefully this baby will like them, too.

We had good luck with Dr. Brown's. I'll plan on using them again if baby takes to them.

I recommend getting a few different types as your little one will probably have a certain type he or she likes best. My niece would only take tommee tippee and my son would only take dr Browns
  • Avent natural

  • At first I was considering Tommee Tippee and Dr. Brown's, but I've had several moms tell me they didn't like them but LOVED Avent bottles. So that's what we're going to try initially.
  • We used avent original and occasionally the Medela ones. My kids liked them and there weren't a million parts to clean and replace.
  • I plan to do the same thing! FTM myself, but have lots of experience with babies and I personally love Avent... We are going to try out Avent natural if baby agrees :)

We used the Nuk Orthodontic ones for DD.
  • We went through tons of bottles trying to find one my daughter liked. I actually didn't register for bottles knowing that some babies are picky and I'm very glad I didn't. My friend who planned my baby shower used bottles in games and as decorations on the tables and bought singles of lots of bottles so thankfully I had a wide variety to choose from. Eventually, she took to Dr. Brown's and we loved them. They are work, but in they were the only ones my EBF baby would take. Maybe ask your mommy friends if they have a few you could try or perhaps donate/return if your lo doesn't take what you register for. Good luck!
  • We loved tommee tippee with our first and plan on trying them with this one as well.. Out DD didn't like the dr brown or nuk bottles as we tried those as well. Once she got older she would use the dr brown, but we still preferred the tommee tippee. They are also supposed to be good for breast feeding moms and transitioning back and forth between bottle and breast.

    I use Dr.Brown's GLASS bottles
  • For DD we used playtex drop ins which she loved and worked really well. We also had a few avent bottles which she started using when she was a little older.

Used Dr Browns bottles and liked them. However they do have more parts to clean!
  • Tommee tippee worked for us
  • I used playtex drop ins, with latex nipples, my son could only latch to latex.
  • If it is just going to be for occasional feeding, start with the most simple. Dr Browns are great, but they are harder to clean and more expensive. After everything we tried, my kids did really well with the madela ones that came with the pump.
  • My son loved the Avent original bottles so we will try with this baby too
  • I am going with avent for when I pump and mixies for when we switch to formula

I used playtex with both my kids but tomee tippee and Dr. Browns weren't around or I completely missed them 5 years ago. Ha. I'll probably get a few single bottles and see which ones work best for her.
  • We struggled for months with my daughter. She refused so many brands and only wanted to nurse. I finally got her to take an Adiri. I think that she took it because it's the same shape as her pacifier.
  • Has anyone heard about those kiinde twist bottles. They look great for pumping moms.

I did some research on these and they look great...but the downside is that the liners are really expensive, and aren't reusable. The bags are about $26 for 80. Lets say on average the baby takes 6 bottles per day. That's roughly ~$50 on bags alone each month. That's a lot. I think I might go with less expensive bags and get the kiinde bag storage rack for the freezer. That seems really practical.
