tattoos

So I know not a lot of people are big fan of tattoos, so please no judging if this post isn't to your liking. As for me I won't lie I'm a huge fan of tattoos, where I'm from it's even apart of my culture. I have no idea why but I've been itching to get another one and I'm not too sure if it's okay while I'm expecting. Does any one know if it's okay? Or have gotten one while being pregnant?

Re: tattoos

  • Look back a page or two, there was just a post about this.
  • Loading the player...
  • I would say no due to the fact that you can never be 100% sure that you wont get infection etc from the needle, ink or environment itself. I have 7 tattoo's so i am a fan as well lol but i would say you should wait until after the baby is here to get any more ink.

Like @aprosch stated, there was a thread about this the other day, but bottom line is that even if you go to a reputable place which you can trust, it's just not worth the risk - no matter how small. And the act of getting a tattoo puts a lot of stress on your body (even if you think its a breeze, your body doesn't haha) which in turn puts stress on baby.

I feel you pain, I'm ready for more ink too, but we owe it to our babies to wait for the 100% all clear ;)

    Pregnancy Ticker

  • From what I've read, it's best to avoid getting a tattoo while pregnant or breastfeeding.

No place will tattoo or pierce you if you are pregnant. I'm a big fan of tattoos and have many so I know when you go in they ask if you are pregnant. They won't because you could for some reason get an infection and they don't want that coming back on them.
  • No no no no no!
  • Absolutely not.

  • You absolutely CAN get a tattoo while pregnant. It is, of course, up to the tattoo artist wheather or not he/she is willing to DO the tattoo... There are of course risks, so you also want to be sure you go to a reputable salon that is known for clean tools.

Now, this is something to think about... "There have also been no studies done on the effects that tattoo ink may have on your baby's health and development."

Read up people! Don't let your personal views and bias on the topic deter another person from doing what they want.

I've NEVER met a tattoo artist (here in Chicago at least) who will tattoo on a pregnant woman (or a drunk person). They have a form that you sign that says you are not pregnant before they begin. Even on tattoo TV shows they make it clear that they will not tattoo a pg woman. Sure, some might still do it but I can't imagine wanting to risk anything getting into my blood while Baby is inside or causing any trauma from the pain. I'm waiting until after I nurse. Better safe than sorry.

The fact that no studies have been done that prove the safety of tattoo ink for baby's development is exactly why I'd avoid it. Even with clean tools, there's a possible risk of infection.

I don't think this is a matter of personal bias as much as erring on the safe side. While I don't personally have any tattoos (yet), I think tats are awesome. Nothing against them whatsoever. I just feel like something like this can wait if it MIGHT harm the baby.

Sure you can do whatever you want during pregnancy, but that doesn't mean you should. I have many tattoos however pregnancy is not the time to get them. There is too much risk for infection, allergic reaction etc. I have had a very dangerous infection (mrsa staph)after getting a tattoo. It does happen and regardless of personal views, is it really worth risking? I'm not sure if you are trying to play the Devils advocate by this post or not,but I think your post makes it sound like it's perfectly fine and to go for it if you want to. Unless you are willing to play rulette with your baby, I would strongly suggest that you wait
  • I've said it before: No reputable artist will touch a pregnant woman. Just hold out. I know it's hard.

Sure you CAN. You can also drink and smoke and do other things you shouldn't do because there are risks involved. There ARE risks involved with getting a tattoo while pregnant. So, yes, you can get one. Should you? NO.
