I know it's early, but I like to plan ahead. This is my SO and my first child and I wanted to get him something really special for fathers day. We are having a girl and he is over the moon. Any suggestions or ideas?
I don't know if I would count this a "really special" (my hubby and I aren't doing much for Mother's Day/Father's Day this year) but I'm giving him a cute "Dad" coffee mug. he is a huge coffee drinker. I had planned on telling him I was pregnant by serving him coffee one morning in the Dad mug but ended up spilling the beans before that happened so now he gets it for Father's Day!
This is my and DH's first baby too. I am looking into having her heartbeat engraved on a copper plate (at least I think it's copper) with a special message - TBD. The plate is the same size of a credit card so he can carry a little piece of her with him wherever he goes. I'm thinking of giving him a new wallet and putting the plate in it so when he opens it he sees his real gift. In case you are interested in this idea, I found several engravers on Etsy.
My hubby is graduating from the police academy on June 11, so I got him a combo graduation/Father's Day gift- it's a pink onesie that says "my daddy can arrest your daddy"!!! So perfect, can't wait to give it to him!
DH bought me a rocker/glider for mothers day for DD and I to use once she's here. For that reason, I want to get him something really nice for Father's Day too. But like you, I'm not really sure what yet either. I'm going to follow for suggestions!
Check pinterest for lots of cute ideas. I don't remember what I did for DH before baby was here (probably just a card or something) last time, but once DS was born I took 3 pictures of DS holding wooden letters to spell out "D-A-D" and then put it in a 3 part frame. It was great, only had to buy the D and the A and it came out super cute, perfect for his desk at work.
DH is a big football fan. Last year I bought him season tickets and this year I was going to get him a new hat and a shirt. Nothing incredibly fancy but I know he'll like it.
I'll be a FTM and we're not super sentimental so instead of something super dad-ish, I'm getting him these shorts (https://www.chubbiesshorts.com/products/schwort) plus some snacks and fancy coffee. My thinking is that he'll want to be super comfy and he'll need to keep his energy up when the baby arrives!
I went half on the new play station four and games:) but I love the dad to be shirts. I need to get him one before she arrives. But not sure where to get one??
My husband loves the packers. This awesome company has different "man crates" they come with a crow bar and they have to open them that way.. they have an NFL one so I'm getting him the Packers one from his "future Packers fan"

Dh is getting his own special diaper bag. When setting up our registry, there were none that he liked, they were all fairly feminine. My job gives me great connections and I just got word from my rep today that he found me a nice soft sided DeWalt tool bag. Since we are having a boy it works out great. Thinking I may add a few "dad" essential items to it just to drive home that its for diapers not his hand tools
For my first, I gave my hubby a Bruins shirt that says Dad with the #1 on the back. I've seen them for all the local sports teams so I'm guessing they're made nation wide. I then bought a Bruins onsie and iron on letters and ironed on son with the #1 on the back. He loved the sentiment! I'm sure your hubby will too if he's a sports fan.
If you want something nicer you could always buy him some masculine jewelry or a watch with Daddy or something engraved on it.
I love the book idea as well as the masculine diaper bag idea.
I have a tradition of making my hubby a photo book off of shutterfly as I word it like a story book. I didn't do it while I was pregnant with my first, but you could start a yearly gift tradition. My hubby really looks forward to his book every year. If you don't like the book idea you could start a different tradition. Maybe a personalized picture phone case (with a sonogram pic this year), or a yearly family or guys only trip.
I've also seen coupon books that you can create to give dad anything from a "one free day off from diaper changes" to a "daddy/mommy fun night"
I'm planning on making him a "new dad toolkit" with things like gloves, goggles & a clothespin for his nose for diaper changing, a bib that says something about being dad's little boy, the book Hop on Pop, and other funny "dad tools." I am going to try to find a kids toy toolbox to package it all in, and then our son will have a cute toolbox toy box. My husband loves looking at toys for our son, so I think he will like it.
This is our first and we agreed not to do much for Mother's Day/Father's Day this year. We are going to get a HD Live sonogram done for our joint celebration next weekend. I also bought DH a cute little book that he can read to our baby boy.

My son loves this book. We have the mommy one too and he takes them off his shelf and gives them to DH and I to read to him (DH obviously gets Daddy, I get Mommy). It is so cute.
@Miz_Liz Ooh good, I'm glad it's kid approved! Hopefully our son will love it just as much as yours. I actually found it this morning when I ventured down to the hospital gift shop while waiting for my glucose test blood draw. It was too cute to pass up. At least something good came from that annoying appointment!
I'm a FTM. My SO and I are celebrating Father's Day ( and we celebrated Mother's Day). I got him a picture frame& keychain that says dad since 2015 from Zulily. It was actually really affordable! And I also ordered some body wash and skin care stuff from Keihls.
This is our third, but for our first, I found a men's jacket that functioned like a diaper bag. He could wear it and it had a pocket for diapers, changing pad, a container for wipes, spots for bottles and pacifiers, etc. this was over 7 years ago though and I couldn't tell you where I found it or who made it.
Maybe a daddy's survival kit for when baby arrives, load up a masculine bag with his favorite snacks and beverages, books, magazines, etc.
This year I'm ordering a collage poster with pics of our kids, including a couple of our 3d ultrasound pics. I'm cheap, and had a promo code for a free $20 poster from shutterfly. I just have to pay shipping. I think he'll love it!
Hi, there! I'm from Sept '15, due at beginning of September, so I like to hop back and forth. But I did a daddy diaper bag with books for him to read to her about daddies, etc and a car seat canopy (using the coupon) with his fave football team. I think I'm more excited to see him get that than I was to do my mothers day stuff!
Re: fathers day gift?
Ribbit Ribbit has nice frames.
