seeing a specialist monday/ update today

edited May 2015 in August 2015 Moms
So I was told I had placenta previa at my 20 week appointment. Had another ultrasound on Tuesday (26 weeks) to see if it had moved at all... well it's hasn't moved at all and it's almost invading my bladder and right on top of my cervix. My doctor is highly suspicious that it's placenta Accreta. So I'm seeing a specialist Monday at noon for him to confirm what my doc is seeing etc. He said if it's placenta Accreta then a hysterectomy is almost 100% gonna happen. My baby is completely healthy and I feel bad that this could compromise her coming early. basically there is a lot of what's if right now and nothing I can do about it. I definitely trust my doctor and know I'm in good hands. Just wondering if anyone went through this and what there experience was like. And just to have good vibes and prayers coming my way for the baby and i. Thanks ladies

  • Sending good vibes your way! I know it's scary to be told you may have something like this, but try to be calm until after you've seen the specialist (I'm assuming perinatologist) and have had your more advanced scans. After my anatomy scan, the OB's office referred me to a peri because they thought they saw vasa previa. I read about it and saw how dangerous it can be and was really anxious until the appointment. Had level 2 ultrasound done and that more advanced scan did not show a vasa previa. I'm still being monitored every 4 weeks to check out my placenta previa, but that's of much less concern.

My point is that the specialist will have FAR more advanced equipment than your OB's office. Perhaps you won't be diagnosed with the condition at all. Worst case scenario is that you are. Then you know you are going to be under the care of a highly trained, highly skilled specialist who will do the best they can for you and your baby.

Hope you get some answers soon!

  • I'm definitely staying calm and hoping for the best! The good thing is I trust my ob and saw this same specialist with my last pregnancy (completely different problems) I just wanted good vibes coming our way and to see what other mom's experiences were if there placenta never moved. So thanks for the feedback :) appreciate it.

  • So after seeing the specialist I will now be in his care instead of my regular ob. And will be delivering at 34 weeks and will be put completely under (one of my biggest fears) for them to perform a c-section and hysterectomy. basically he went over that and putting tubes in my bladder and a catheter for 10 days and a main line etc & so much more. He said most likely a shot of steroids to help the babies lungs develop faster before delivery. will see him in 2 more weeks to go over all of this again and to have a check up to make sure things aren't getting worse. Again I feel horrible this is compromising my baby girl coming so early and feel selfish freaking out about what I have to go through. Trying to stay positive but being put under for 2 surgeries at the same time and not being able to have my husband be in there is sending my anxiety through the roof. And I won't even know how our little girl is til I wake up. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers . Hope this makes sense (on mobile)

Thoughts and prayers! Try to remember that this is what they do and you are in good hands. I know it sounds so scary. Maybe make a list of questions for your next appointment?

Great Advice! That's what my doc said to bring to my next appointment. And luckily my husband will be able to go with me so I'm not the only one trying to understand everything that will be going on. Last time he had to watch our kids so I had to try to digest all that info by myself.
  • I am so sorry you are dealing with this. I'm sure it's terrifying. It sounds like both you and baby are in good hands, though. Try to take this one day at a time and remember all three of you will be home celebrating first smiles and first hugs, soon. Praying for you.

  • Also, my niece was born at 34 weeks last year and never had a single issue (well, a bit of jaundice, but she was still able to come home on time). I'm sure your baby girl will be fine as well.

  • Hugs to you during this anxious and scary trial.  It is such a blessing to have specialists that know how to take care of medical situations like this.  Remember that it is the thing they have trained for and assisted others with.  I can only imagine how worried you must be!  Lots of thoughts and prayers to you and your baby girl!

  • Prayers for you and your baby girl. I can only imagine how you feel. I agree with the advice you have been given, sounds like you are in good hands with your specialist. It is great your hubby can come along with you and make sure you write down your questions ahead of time and ask them at your appointment. Try to remain FAITHFUL and think on positive things. You are not selfish to feel how you are feeling, you are human and express some legitimate fears.

Prayers for you and your family

  • Thoughts and prayers with you! Your attitude is amazing because I can only imagine how much this would be to take in. My boys were born at 36 weeks and didn't have any issues but were held in special care to grow more (10 and 11days). I got extra time to heal from my csection so I took that as the silver lining for not being able to take them home right away. Also, my hospital was slammed the night I had them and I didn't get to go back and see them for 8 hours. Granted since I wasn't under like you'll be, I did get to see them when they first came out so I can imagine why it would be dissapointing to know you have to wait.

Thank you i appreciate that. My twins were born at almost 36 weeks and they were perfectly healthy and came home right away so I'm hoping our little girl takes after them. 8 hours is a long time still and I'm sure would be hard on any mom. Being positive is what I'm trying to do and to be strong through this whole ordeal. Thanks ladies! I appreciate all your kind words and support
  • Woke up early this morning and was bleeding and went straight to the hospital. I am now on bed rest at the hospital and will be staying here the rest of my pregnancy. The goal is to keep the baby cooking in my tummy as long as possible but no longer then 34 weeks. The bleeding has stopped which helps keeping from delivering right now. Still trying to stay positive. Biggest concern is the health of my baby and my other 3 kiddos at home. Luckily my husband's work is amazing and he is able to be with our kids right now until we figure out a schedule with my sister. thanks for the thoughts and prayers

Thoughts and prayers still coming your way! My cousin's little girl was delivered via emergency c-section at 23 weeks and she is an awesome, crazy, healthy 4 year old now! Glad you are there and in good hands.
  • Praying for you and baby. Glad the bleeding has stopped, that's great news! You're in good hands at the hospital. Hoping your little girl will continue to cook in there for a while! Hang in there mama!
  • Sorry to hear you're on bedrest but I'm happy to hear your bean is still cooking! Here's hoping things get boring and uneventful here on out!
