Where are you registering? How many places?

where is everyone registering? Does anyone have any advice on why to register at one place vs. another.

I've heard the return policy at Target is not very good and it seems like a lot of people recommend buy buy baby, but the nearest one is an hour from me. I received so many duplicates of things when I had my bridal shower from people not using registries to check things off or buying from different stores so return/ exchange policy is certainly something to consider!

Anyone have any experience with diapers.com, babylist, or Amazon for online registries?

Re: Where are you registering? How many places?

  • I've registered primarily on Babylist. I started a registry at BRU too, but really the completion discount isn't great, and things are usually cheaper elsewhere. For people who shop in person I linked my BRU registry, and linked things from walmart too. I also have an amazing natural parenting store in my town I like to support, so I linked everything I could there (my family all lives far away, and generally just ship things to my house for Christmas and my 2yo's gifts). And things of specific brands (nursing shirts, babywearing accessories and the breast pads I like) aren't sold at the mainstream stores, so Babylist works perfectly for me to keep it all in one place, but accessible for people to shop from online or in person.

  • I'm doing Target and Amazon. There are hardly any Buy Buy Baby stores near me and BRU is expensive. Some of the things I've registered for at Target tend to be $20-$50 more at BRU! I did some things on Amazon just to give people options in case stuff goes out of stock at Target.
  • Well, I'm not having a shower or anything, but I registered at Target as a way to keep track of what I wanted to get.   If any of my family wants to get me anything, I'll tell them about my registry.

  • I only registered at Amazon.com so everything would be in one place but the people who are throwing my shower are telling everyone they can buy the stuff wherever they want. I may do a really small registry at target because they sent me a promotion for a $20 gift card if I did a registry there.

I registered at Amazon only. I had a great experience. People were able to find my registry easy, and we got almost everything on there! Great experience. We got a 15% completion discount because we have Amazon prime. Totally worth it and would definitely recommend Amazon!!
  • I'm doing buy buy baby because of there return policy/coupons/overall it's a nice store and there are multiple locations within 95% of the invited guests except for the out of state aunts but they usually do something sweet and knit a blanket. I'm also registering at a cloth diaper store and I'm figuring all my friends that cloth diaper will purchase from there
  • I'm doing Babies R Us and Pottery Barn Kids. We're in RI and we don't have a Buy Buy Baby and BRU is the go to place for everything baby. We also love PB Kids and we are moving into a new house we just built very soon. So I was just going to put a small list on there- maybe like 8-10 items of cute stuff that I saw for the nursery and to give people another choice of where to shop.
  • I registered at BRU and Amazon, but my mom thinks I should register at Target too, in case not everyone has a BRU or likes shopping online. (and I'm wondering if I should put duplicate stuff on that registry, because I already put down every single thing I wanted! I got a ton of hand me downs so I'm not in need of huge amounts of things.)
  • We registered at Babies R Us mainly because they have everything we need and there are more locations near our friends and family than other baby stores. I know my family won't buy online so I wanted to register at an actual store otherwise I would have done Amazon. I figure they can look at the registry and either buy there or go someplace else. The idea of registering at a few places exhausts me. The one was overwhelming enough! Lol

We registered at BRU and Target based on the location of those stores and the average age of people who would probably be invited to a shower (ie: over the age of 65). There is only one BBB near us and it's at least 45 minutes away. We felt that it would help to give folks a choice.

I've put "duplicates" in each registry of things I wouldn't mind having multiples of: crib sheets, receiving blankets, pacifiers, etc. that way if we end up with 4 crib sheets...who cares! I've also put parts of a set on each registry: diaper bag on one, travel changing pad on the other.

After reading all of this, I feel like I have put WAAAAY too much thought into this...

The not wanting to shop online is why I didn't go full Amazon... My wonderful godmother whom I love with all my heart has a nut job for a husband and the doesn't believe in computers! He's a strange man... They actually went to a AAA office to get directions and a map to my wedding which was only 40 minutes away from them!
  • I just did Amazon Universal, which allows you to add from any website like Babylist does. I was going to do target too but I ended up having hardly anything I wanted on that registry since Amazon has so much stuff, so I just cancelled that one.
  • I did Babies R Us, but I really wanted to do Buy Buy Baby instead. They have a larger selections for most everything you'll need, but my mother pointed out that for the out of town guest to the shower they may not have a buy buy near them and babies r us would just be easier :/
  • I registered at Amazon and BuyBuyBaby. I'm thinking about registering at BRU as well because there are some people who don't live near BuyBuyBaby and don't use a computer. For those people, I think they should just get me whatever, because I'm tired of registering at this point.
  • I've registered at all of the above haha babys r us, buy buy baby, target, AND babyli.st!! I learned that all three of the stores do a price match guarantee. I saw it in action, the BOB stroller was 367 on amazon and 450 at BRU and they sold it to her for the 367 and allowed her to use my 15% off coupon!! Anything is amendable in the retail market :)
  • We just did BRU. We stayed away from BBB for the same reasons as most others... There were not a lot of stores near us or our guests.

I also only went with one place as I hated having 3 registries for my wedding. I wanted simplicity this time around from a return and upkeep standpoint.

While BRU is pricy, most people in our area consider it the go to store for babies and baby showers. They also accept BBB coupons in our area.

We avoided Amazon because a lot of our guests won't order on line.

We considered target but due to their return policy we avoided it. Also, the selection is minimal compared to others.
  • I registered at Target, BRU and Amazon. The return policy at Target is great. I know what I take back and how when I would there. BRU is where I got some basic stuff and Amazon had the crib bedding that I feel in love with and alva baby diapers that I have determined that I was going to use.

Thanks for input everyone! Has anyone actually used babylist either to purchase or for a previous registry? I'm wondering if it will be a pain for guests to use.

I wish I could just make a list and tell people to buy it wherever they find the best price/is more convenient! I hate making people spend so much money when I know I could find at consignment shops or yard sales for so much cheaper!!

I register at BRU for big ticket items because you get 10% back of your registry purchases 6 weeks after baby's due date. I also registered at Target because crib sheets (set) are so much more reasonably priced than BRU or other stores! I also had both open at the same time and compared prices on items I wanted then chose the lower of the two depending on the store. Target for most of the smaller items was the best value :)
  • Has anyone ever used Kohls for a baby registry?? They have an AMAZING return policy, coupons and discounts galore, too!!! We are forever getting Kohls Cash and 20% or 30% off the entire order! We have a local store, but online they have everything you could think of for baby! I had a wonderful experience through Kohl's with my wedding registry!!
