Curiosity on name spellings.

I have seen a lot of posts on going with original names. Dh found the name Kyra online an enjoyed that it meant light. We liked the sound of Kyra Sue. My question is if you ladies know what the "normal" spelling of the name is? Dh pronounces it KYE-ra. The kye rhymes with eye not ear.

Edit for spelling

Re: Curiosity on name spellings.

  • Kyra

It isn't pronounced the way you're intending though. This is a variant spelling of the name Keira or Kira, pronounced Kie-re/ Kee-re. As in Keira Knightley.

  • It's pronounced Kee-Rah
  • Yeah.. If you want that "i" sound it would be spelled Kaira, methinks.
  • I knew someone named Kyra (pronounced Kai-Ra) and it drove me bananas. I really, truly dislike this name. Can I sway you to use Kira/Keira? I'll send you a big Internet hug. There just doesn't seem to be a proper way to spell that name that isn't technically another name.

  • Thank you ladies for the input :) I'll have to bring up Kira with dh.
  • Well I read it the way you're pronouncing it, and if that's the way you want it to sound that looks like the only way to do it. I do prefer it to Keira, in any case.

I read it the way you intended.. I don't mind it but Kaira will take away any confusion.
  • Kaira = k (eye)-rah. Kyra is long established as Kee-ra. So I would recommend spelling it how you want it to sound.
