No, not painful but they also don't feel like cramps. It's a tightening sensation, the same feeling as if you were to flex your arm muscles, but involuntary.
Not painful? Wondering bc I just had them in the middle of the night for the first time and I thought they hurt! I mean not like unbareable.. But still painful.
Uncomfortable for most but not painful. I think some women do get painful ones, but that isn't as common. They don't feel like cramps though. They feel like your entire abdomen turns into a rock for 30 seconds or a minute. I also always get a really strong urge to pee when I get them which is annoying because then it is really uncomfortable to move till it subsides.
Met with my doctor yesterday because mine were painful as well. Since this is my second baby he said that's not unusual. As long as they aren't timeable or consistent that it's not a problem.

I get cramps with mine.. It feels like period cramps x 3, but my stomach will also be hard when it happens. I've had a few contractions already too. But I am a STM and I am at risk for PTL due to a LEEP procedure for cervical cancer. So I worry about any cramping, tightening, or contractions and Braxton hicks. I never experienced Braxton hicks with my first..ever. I had one contraction at 38 weeks, and nothing else til after my water broke at 41 weeks So the Braxton hicks thing is all new to me
just call your doctor either way. I had HORRIFIC cramping about a month ago, doubled over in pain almost in tears that lasted about 15 minutes. I called my OB and he got me in the next day to get looked at. After a transvaginal sonogram it turned out I have a short cervix and have been on modified bed rest since. Always better to be safe than sorry.
I just got placed on modified bed rest as well. I didn't think anything of them and thought it was normal but I'm 27 weeks and the doctor went on and checked my cervix because I mentioned that some were getting pretty painful and crampy feeling and I am actually already 1 1/2 cm dilated with a soft and thin cervix
My are extremely painful and they don't go away unless I lay down. I talked to my doctor about it and she said they were braxton hicks. I was surprised though because I didn't think they were painful.
