Plus size and pregnant - where's my bump?

So I'm 12 weeks pregnant and I know that's already early to have a bump. However, I'm curious as a plus size gal (size 22 in pants and 3 x in tops) when will my bump show? Just a little excited and anxious.

I have the same question...I'm 5'6" and 185 lbs. Definitely had a pooch pre-pregnancy (or how someone else described it, the B belly), so I'm not sure if what I'm seeing is a baby bump or just bloat/gained weight :(

    Edit: 11 weeks tomorrow :)

  • @heatmill I am the same measurements as you but this is my 4th pregnancy and when at the dr. the other day she was shocked at how big my uterus already was...I make BIG babies but have never had this said to me before. Anyway, with my pregnancies I was lucky enough to put all my weight on in my stomach so I was huge big belly. Because of how my uterus is tilted I always get bigger up higher than the cute belly bump lower.

There was a girl I knew that was on the bigger side and she never got a belly bump. All of our bodies are just different.
  • I was a size 14/16 when I had my son, I gained more than 60 lbs and never thought I looked pregnant..just big. I had a B belly. I only lost about half the baby weight and I'm expecting to look big not pregnant again. I am really going to try to limit my weight gain this time though.
  • I'm about the same size - with my son I definately had a baby belly. My cousin just looked heavy with both of hers. I think it's how you carry the baby more than anything. I'm between 34-36 weeks in the pics.
  • So I just looked heavy with my daughter- this one my students say they see a baby bump (12 weeks) really it's just my roll bumping out more, but it's because there is a real baby bump under it so I just go with it

I'm feeling really bummed about this, actually...I'm a 14/16 normally and all of my weight is in my stomach...I already look like I am super pregnant and I'm only 12 weeks. I had lost 15 pounds prior to my pregnancy, but now I just feel big and bloated and just looking fat. Sorry, I'm not trying to be a whiner or complainer...its been frustrating trying to figure out my clothing options. Thanks for letting me vent. Lol
  • Glad you asked this....was wondering the same thing.
@awilliams2728  Did you buy plus size maternity clothes? If so...where and when? And what size? I'm a 20/22 now and am wondering how my clothes will fit as I grow.

    thanks

  • @glovebug I didn't bother buying maternity clothes- I just bought clothes that look nice that a more flowing- my rule of thumb is I will only buy something if it looks okay now and it can work for later on too- then you've just added to your wardrobe instead of getting clothes you can't use later
  • Thanks for all the info and help, guys. I guess I'll ask the doc what she thinks on June 4 at my next appt. If it's just fat then I really need to start limiting my intake :(

I thought I was doing well! I have to say I'll be very disappointed if I end up just looking extra overweight. Nothing wrong with that buy I want to look like I'm carrying a baby!!
  • I am also 22 pants and 1x-2x tops. This is my 3rd pregnancy and with my first 2 you could tell i was pregnant around 18-20 weeks. I was all belly and actually lost weight through my pregnancies. At the end of my 1st i was up 3lbs from my prepregncy weight and with my second i gained 6lbs. I didnt use any maternity clothes with my first, i just used a hair tie to keep my pants closed. I did buy a pair of maternity jeans and shorts with my second at target. Hope that helps :)
  • I wanted to ask this too, haha. I'm a 18/20 and kind of sad I won't get that cute little bump. Oh well, I'm sure at some point I'll have a little something going on
  • I didn't look pregnant with my first until I was about to pop, and even then some people were surprised when I went on maternity leave. I was a 28/30then though. I am now an 18/20, but I carry a lot of weight in my belly... I am expecting to look pregnant earlier this time..... But not expecting much, no need to be disappointed about something like that :).

I also lost weight with my last one, but I had GD so my food was restricted. I was on a self imposed strict diet prior to getting pregnant, so not expecting to lose this time....

I did buy maternity clothes last time and inherited some this time. I recommend JC Penney, motherhood maternity and Target, their XXL is rather generous, like I mentioned I am Apple shaped and don't fit into XXL Tankinis, but I just bought one from their maternity line and it had some spare room in it (as I don't expect to be in it for at least a month).

I'm 10w4d and just feel chubby! 5'6 and between and 14 and 16 now. I can't wait until I actually have a baby bump. My MIL stopped by the other day (unannounced.. Oh joy!) and the first thing she did was poke my stomach and ask "gettin' fat yet?!" I just pulled away said yeah but that's not baby! I wanted to throat punch her!!!! Seriously lady?! You have been a pregnant woman ... Why would you ever comment so soon on someone's weight?! Especially since it's my first and I had more of a tummy than I wanted before getting pregnant! And why would you touch my stomach?! I'm totally not going to be one of those women that enjoy that. **sorry kind of got off topic.. pregnancy hormones and annoying MILs don't mix!
  • I've wondered this too. I am a size 16/18 and XL in tops. I carry a lot of my weight in my hips, and I'm afraid that I will just look like I've gained weight rather than pregnant. That has happened to several women I know. One woman I kept forgetting was even pregnant because she didn't even really look like she gained any weight. She had a beautiful healthy baby boy in Feb- so I guess it really doesn't matter what I look like as long as my baby is healthy!
  • Im a 16/18 at 5'9 and i just look huge n fat :( with my first 4 i was very thin...then after my c section and trauma i gained 70 pounds. :( so my 6th to 8th babies i didn't look pregnant til 7 months. Til then i just look obese. Made me so sad. And i am down alnost 60 pounds and still just look 'big'... Ugh
  • @glovebug - I'm super blessed to have a Mama who is an excellent seamstress. So she made pretty much all of my maternity clothes. I still haven't lost the baby weight from my first though so I hope I can still wear them for this pregnancy!!
  • Girls I think we all just need to embrace that we are beautiful no matter what! And like @catherine1021 wrote, what's important is a healthy baby!

*repeats mantra to self over and over again*
  • Im a 16/18 5'11. Although my stomach is usually flat my weight is in my legs and my boobs, then the arm fat. Im just shaped weird normally. No with the bloat I feel huge. My friend wants to go to the beach tommorrow and I'm dreading buying a bathing suit.
  • Love it!! Thanks for the reminder!

Oops! I meant to quote this...love it! Thanks for the reminder!

  • 5'4 and chubby/fatty (round 172#) but though Ive only gained a pound or two in the 11 weeks, Ive definitely noticed a bumpy likeness in my lower belly that definitely wasn't there before.

I highly doubt anyone else has noticed but I definitely do. None of my jeans fit :\ I'm on early maternity pants for work now xD

The way I see it people had already thought I was overweight prior to pregnancy, why should it bother me if they continue to think it? Lol
