Hello! So my DH and I just started ttc, and I would like to know if anyone can tell me how long it usually takes to get pregnant after stopping the pill; how long does it usually take to ovulate again? Thanks so much!

Honestly it's different for each an every person. For every gal that gets pregnant the month after getting off the pill there is one that takes a year or longer. I suggest you lurk around past threads and read the pinned articles at the top of the board. This question has been asked many times and there is a lot of good info you can find with the search function

There is no way for us to know about your personal biology. I suggest you start temping with a basal body thermometer and use the Fertility Friend app. Also, stick around and lurk to learn a whole lot more.
Personally, I am just feeling back to normal this cycle...and I stopped BC at Christmas. I had almost three months without a period or ovulation, but reading everything here has helped me understand what is going on. Temp temp temp!
I had regular cycles and ovulated the cycle immediately after stopping the pill, but I'm on cycle 20 and still haven't gotten a BFP yet. Every woman responds differently.
Everyone's different. I personally am pretty sure I ovulated the first month, but I also had a short luteal phase and some spotting after my period, so if I had gotten an egg fertilized it probably wouldn't have made it. It's usually recommended that you stop the pill about three months before trying, 6 months if you've been on it for two years or longer.
In a nutshell, it's worth a shot, but don't hold your breath.

Considering you can get pregnant while taking the pill it is possible to get pregnant quickly after stopping. It could also take a few months to a year or more. So sadly there is no good answer to this question. I will say, for the h*** of it I lurked around the Tell a newbie post and did a search on your topic. It was not very helpful. I read A TON of snarky comments with no helpful information in them. So if I were you I wouldn't feel too bad about just straight up asking your question. Personally this is my first cycle off BCP and based on my charting and my mittelschmerz (ovulation pain) I am sure I ovulated. If you are not charting I recommend you start. It's kind of like GPS for getting through your cycle. your more likely to miss your turn with out it. Hope this was helpful to you!

All posts on how long it takes to get pregnant after stopping bcp aren't going to contain "helpful information" because there is literally no way to answer that question. What IS helpful is to learn about your body and understand what you can control to increase your chances of conceiving. You did recommend she chart (not sure if you temp too?) but you seemed to be encouraging this type of impossible question. Which is a waste of time.
Hi! This is my first comment! I recently had my pre conception visit with my OB-GYN and she wants me to continue taking my BC until we are ready to conceive in September. I will most likely stop taking them in August the week before my inactive pills. I take the pill Levora which she says it is pretty easy to get pregnant right after coming off of it. My best friend was taking the same BC and all it took for her was taking an Antibiotic while on the pill and she was pregnant the following month. She told me to start taking prenatal vitamins which I have been taking for 1 week now. After lurking a little, I found that most women agree that taking them at night has less side effects. Thanks for that info! Lol I have an appointment with my physician on Friday just to make sure all my shots are up date. Now I just have to figure out this FF app. Good luck!
Girl lurk, lurk and lurk some more. These ladies can be vicious! I understand where you're coming from though. I just went off my BC in March and I was literally scouring EVERYTHING I could find to get an idea how long it took some women to get AF or to ovulate, let alone get preggers. Obviously there is no generic answer that fits each of us, but it was simply comforting to hear other stories. I'm 36, so I was highly doubtful that I'd get preggo immediately, but I was just worried about getting my period after so many years on the pill. There is so much excitement around TTC, that it is hard to pace yourself and calm the heck down! It's truly a hurry up and wait game and you have to figure out how NOT to drive yourself crazy during this crazy/beautiful process. So to answer your horifically newbie question. It took me 2 weeks after stopping my bc (even though I quit on the last week of pills) to get my period. I'm now in my second cycle and generally just trying to learn my body again. Here's hoping for a bfp and good luck to you. I haven't started temping yet, honestly I'm trying to avoid the daily reminder and I know my body is simply getting used to being off the bc, but I do plan to start charting/temping after my 3rd cycle if no Bfp. I understand where the seasoned ladies are coming from. (Literally, this is probably asked daily) But I certainly understand your excitement, it makes you insane! Honestly, I think if a newbie asking the same question EVERY SINGLE PERSON ON THIS site has wondered at some point is soooooo irritating, you can just ignore them. Like seriously....just ignore them.

You had so many great points but the last. Ignoring the veterans (which I am not one) would be a sad thing to do. They really have great advice and insight. Just because they want people to educate themselves and look for answers a little on their own really is not a big deal. Yes snark comes with the territory but they also give respect whenever given it.
OP in my experience, because I know you are wanting to hear other experiences although they do not mean they will become your experience, I went off BC after being on it for 15 years in feb. I did not ovluate until cd 75. Never would I have expected that to happen but through charting/temping I was able to relax and honestly just wait it out. My first period was nothing I expected (only 3 days, 2 were light 1 medium) and I'm hoping my body will regulate more with this next cycle. The best thing you can do is temp, chart and read. Goodluck!
I will say yes there is snark but 1) this is the tone of the forum. 2) it's usually directed towards people who don't read the TOU and ask questions (big eg. "Am I pregnant?) that we don't know the answer to and are insensitive to those who have been trying a while. It's not nastiness for the sake of it, it's just how people express themselves on here. It's personally not my normal tone but I often appreciate the humour that's the flip side of the same coin.
You will find lots of helpful information on the "If you could tell a newbie" thread, by searching the forum, by participating in existing threads and by reading the recommended material (TCOYF, Fertility Friend tutorials etc). Please don't ignore the veterans or, more to the point, ignore them to your detriment. They are a wealth of information and support and have helped me and others so many times.
I am new to all of this myself and I just had my annual check up with OBGYN yesterday. We had a conversation about keeping track of everything with charting and using an app to help you keep track of what's going on. I had asked how long it would take and she said it just depends for everyone. She said some people she tells that too and they get prego the next cycle and others it takes longer. She also recommended not using any of the OPK just yet or until I'm about 3 cycles post BC to get a better idea because the OPK are expensive and you'll have a better idea of when to really use it if you track it for a few cycles first before just jumping into the kits. So that is my plan. Which is good and bad because I've got the worst case of baby fever ever, but we also have some things coming up in the fall that I'm not sure I want to be prego for. Also, I did use one of the OPK tests once, just to see and we were going to more than likely be doing our business shortly anyways after me taking the test, but when it came back negative, i completely lost interest. So I'd recommend waiting a few cycles on that too because the whole process can be exhausting and take some of the fun out of it.
