3D/4D ultra sound???

What's everyone think? Worth the $$$??

Re: 3D/4D ultra sound???

  • This was only at 18 weeks and still so clear. I absolutely loved mine and well worth what we paid. Will be going back in the coming weeks :)

How much will it be and for how long? Make sure you look around on prices and lengths before you set anything in stone :)

  • Yeah I had one at 16+5 weeks for gender have another booked for 1st of July for both grans to get to see her :)
  • I'm personally not a fan. I always thought they made baby look kinda scary and alien-like, but figured I'd feel differently when it was my little munchkin... Not so much. We did a sneak peek for gender that included 3D/4D, and I found the shots as unappealing as ever. That said, it's my personal preference - if you find the look of the 3D/4D appealing, if you shop around you can definitely find reasonable places. As far as the experience itself, it was wonderful. You are paying them and the pictures are for you, so they work hard to get good shots and take feedback from the parents!

We just did it this weekend and I loved it.  We paid $140 for 25 minutes, a CD of pictures(got around 80), a DVD of little clips, and 3 4x6 pictures printed off.  They also printed off this "keepsake" which is a nicer piece of paper that describes what the baby did during the ultrasound and who all was there from the babies perspective.  We also got to book a second session for about 29 weeks with the same perks, but for only $75.  We actually did this as a Mother's Day/Father's Day gift for our parents and they loved getting to see her.

The pictures can look funny (alien-like), but I loved being able to see all of the details, right up to possibly a patch of hair that we spotted. It's amazing what all they can actually see.  We even watched her punch me and then grin!  I guess I'll have a mischievous one on my hands. Here is one of my pictures from this weekend.  I was 24w1d.
  • @CEW225 she is cute!

Thanks @pregat40! I mean, I might be a little biased, but she is quite adorable.

I did with my first child and being that I was a ftm I thought it was worth it. This time around I'm debating on doing it. Not because it isn't cute or nice but because it's just not necessary. If I do it I will do it later in pregnancy when you can see what baby will look like more as opposed to them looking alien like.

We did with our first four kids. Didn't with the last baby and won't with this current one. No extra money for stuff like that. But I did love the experiences when I did have it in my budget. We did all of ours close to 30 weeks with previous kiddos so the babies had developed all their features that they'd have when born.

  • I plan on doing it. I have been thinking about it since week 16, and want to wait til I'm about 26-27 weeks. Only 5 more to go! There is also a Groupon for a boutique near my area for $49 that includes 6 print outs, a DVD of the ultrasound, and you can bring up to 10 people to view on the 100" screen. so I feel I can splurge a little, since I haven't done anything for myself pampering wise since I got preggers.

I don't know how I'll feel about it once it's done, but it will get it off my mind, and I'll at least have some keepsakes and the memory. :)
  • My 20 week ultrasound pictures were blurry and dark so I scheduled a 3d/4d ultrasound to have nicer 2nd tri photos. I think it was well worth it. These were at 23 weeks and I'll be returning around 30 weeks to see if baby will look like more like his dad or me lol. I paid $95.
  • Worth it to me! Had one done at 17 weeks and if I could do it over I'd wait til I was farther along but it was still a great experience and I wouldn't change it for anything. Love my pics of my baby!
  • They did it for me in the hospital for my 20 week ultrasound. The baby just looked like a blob. They said they're best done at 33-37 weeks. They also told me that in Oregon they have shut down all of the clinics that do these types of ultrasounds cause they were using highly unsafe levels for their scans and they weren't medically trained like hospitals are. They will do them at the hospital, I know my hospital has 3D and 4D machiens for all ultrasounds and they just flip it on if you want to see at no extra charge and at safer levels. Maybe that's why the image wasn't that great cause they're opperating within the safer limits. IDK.
  • We're getting one because they do live links to it, good for a month so I go in get it done and within a few hours they send me the link and I can send it to friends or family who live outside of our city/country. With family in England, Scotland, Australia, Middle east and Cyprus it's going to be perfect for making them apart of the whole experience.

With the added benefit of we get a free DVD recording because I signed up at a baby expo for the scan AND a 3D picture of our lovely baby in a bunch of different orientations.

    Best $129 spent.
  • My dr's office does them, and I totally was planning on getting one. However, since I am getting extra US throughout the pregnancy to monitor baby, I decided not to do any extra US. Otherwise, I'd already have it scheduled haha!
