QOTW: What is the best and worst advice you’ve received during pregnancy?

Re: ***3rd tri Check-In 5/11***

  • Hello!  So excited to be joining all of you in third trimester!

    EDD 8/2/15, b/g twins

Good news:  At growth check last week, my girl is weighing in at 2 lbs, 8 oz and my boy at 2 lbs, 7 oz.  Bad news: I failed my 1 hour glucose test so I have to go back for the 3 hour.  I'm pretty bummed about it, but this has been a difficult pregnancy so I guess I should have expected this.

QOTW:  I have received a ton of great advice about multiples from my local Mothers of Multiples club.  They are amazing and the group even sets up meals for you once you come home with the babies :-)  Honestly I have not received really bad advice - I already have DD so most people aren't offering up parenting advice like they did when I was pregnant with her.  It's not in the "advice" column but the most annoying thing I deal with right now is being constantly asked if twins run in the family.
    Me: 35 DH: 35 - Married 10 years
    PCOS and MF

Two failed rounds IUI in 2010
    IVF #1 in 2011 - BFP 8/5/11 - Our IVF miracle was born 4/8/12

    FET 3/28/14; BFN - 4/7/14
    IVF #2 - Transfer 2 embryos 11/14/14; BFP 11/24/14 - Beta 265;
    11/26/14 - Beta 612; 11/28/14 - Beta 1263; 12/1/14 - Beta 3571;
    12/3/14 - first u/s - two gestational sacs; 12/17/14 - two healthy heartbeats (132 and 134)
Our IVF miracles were born 7/16/15

Welcome!! I've added you to the check in :) So happy to hear the good news and so sorry about the 1hr, hopefully it will all check out at the 3hr test. Either way, don't worry... You've got this :)

  • @kevinandjesse, Thanks again for taking this over!

I'm 30 weeks today.  Have a growth scan & cervix check next week.  Feeling pretty good.  Feel huge.  Measuring 38 weeks.  Yikes!

QOTW:  Best advice was from a local MOM group.  "rest as much as possible, and take all help offered".  Its not in my DNA to just "rest", but I have been and feel better physically.  Really haven't gotten any bad advice!    @lawmom747, I too am dealing with "do they run in the family".  I've learned to just say, "they do now". and it shuts them up!

Hope all the 3rd tri momma's are doing great!  Love reading all the updates!

  • Yay I get to join here now too!! I think I'm 29 weeks tomorrow, mobile bumping so can't check. Had an ultrasound last week-boy is 2.9 lbs and looking good, I have my glucose test today and I'm nervous.

QOTD-not a ton of advice either way, people know of our journey so I think they just generally try to be supportive and excited for us.

    Hi everyone!

Not much news here- I haven't seen doctor since 27 weeks and won't see him until 32. We moved across the country during first trimester and I am back home for baby shower month! So unless something requires tending to, I won't see him until June 1. Baby was measuring 60th percentile and right on target at my last check! I have baby shower #2 this Saturday- super excited! (I have a lot of clients, friends and family... 3 is a bit much but it's just what worked out the best)

Oh I do have something I am curious to hear what you ladies are doing to deal with it- I am SO tired. It's like I hit 28 weeks and I can't even lift my feet off the ground. Anyone else? How do you manage to get things done? I just didn't expect this much exhaustion this early in third Tri... I'm not a couch potato and I hate feeling so lazy!

    QOTW
I haven't received too much advice. I hear a lot of "sleep now while you can", which is about the silliest thing. It's like saying "eat now because you can't eat next year"... It just doesn't work that way!
    PAIF
pregnant after round 2 of IVF. Transferred 2 embryos and (surprise!) was pregnant with triplets. Identicals passed at 8 and 10 weeks. Still have one healthy baby boy with EDD of July 30!

  • Hi all!
I'm 40 weeks on Friday and feeling ready to meet our girl! Been 50% effaced and 1 cm dilated for 3 weeks. We go to the OB tomorrow so I'm curious to see if anything has changed! BH contractions are starting to feel stronger the past few days but nothing else to indicate labor.

Haven't had much advice other then the normal "sleep while you can " and " eating for 2 now"!

  • Hey ladies! 35w4d today! Have weekly Friday OB appts now. Things are going good, just getting generally more uncomfortable and having some sharp pain on my low right side which I guess is just baby on a nerve or RLP. Getting so anxious to meet little one now!

@ktabs I felt really tired around 30 weeks which lasted for a couple weeks then I seemed to get over it. So maybe it's just a little phase. However, around 28 weeks most OBs do a CBC and check iron levels...if your iron is low it can make you very tired and you may need a supplement (my iron was fine so that's why I think my tiredness was just a little phase). I know you haven't seen your dr but have you had any bloodwork lately?

Ya know what... I need to ask. I did glucose 3 weeks ago but I don't know if they checked anything else. Thanks for mentioning that- it might be the cause!

  • Hey ladies!
I'm 30w4d and counting down the weeks!! Nothing too new with me. I've been feeling the baby so much more this week, which is really excited! He woke me up doing a backflip or something last night! :D

QOTD: I've gotten some bizarre advice like don't sit cross cross or you'll restrict blood to the baby, put hot pads on your stomach to reduce stretch marks and eat ice to get the baby to kick! Best advice so far was to buy a maternity belt. Made my back feel so much better!!

    Have a great week! :)

  • Hey, I'm still here. 38 weeks, 2 days today. Csection is Tuesday, very ready. My Birthday was yesterday, it was a crazy day which included me tripping & falling on rocks! Landed on all 4's, not stomach, all is good. Then my son (5 in June) decided to finger paint his carpet & bed with poop, yes poop- boys are so gross! Anyway, been busy finishing up training my work replacement, working up until the end...

QOTW: this is my second, so I haven't got much advice, more "just wait until there are 2, it's harder then having just 1". Well obviously, but I'm sure I'll be fine, thanks...

    My History:
    Lots of BFN's & failed IUI's w/clomid and/or femara
Finally BFP with femara & t.i.- son born 6/17/2010
Started TTC again around when DS was 3ish
    Lots of BFN's with femara & t.i & ovidrel
Tubes clear, S.A came back low motility but high count
About to switch to injectables w/femara, did one last cycle with just femara & an IUI with ovidrel- stupid motility was fantastic in the sample, but count was 700,000 AFTER wash! Had to sign a paper to even still do IUI- BFFP (big fat freaking positive) Go figure!

    1st Beta 13dpiui 54, 2nd beta 48 hours later 115, 3rd beta 48 hours later 310, 4th beta 72 hours later 1748.

It appears I may have failed my glucose test last week.... my number is outside the desired range of 70-110mg.... but I haven't heard from the hospital so maybe my 128 was okay? I screwed up and ate a cupcake right before my appt. I really wasn't thinking....

Baby is kicking a ton. Excited to be in the home stretch :)
