Essential oils!!

I work at a day care and recently there has been ants so to take them away they have been using clove essential oil around the room.it smells awful but anyways Is this safe to be around?!

Re: Essential oils!!

  • I think it's fine as long as you aren't ingesting it or putting it on your skin.

I use essential oils daily. I diffuse them, ingest, and rub on my skin. Most are safe but there are a few to avoid during pregnancy.

  • @sjames2 Do you know which ones to avoid?

Not recommended: Arborvitae, Basil, Birch, Cedarwood, Cassia, Cinnamon, Cypress, Eucalyptus, Rosemary, Thyme, Wintergreen. Blends that are not recommended: anti-aging blend, calming blend, Cleansing blend, Focus blend, Grounding blend, headache relief blend, Invigorating blend, Joyful blend, Massage blend, respiratory blend, repellant blend, Soothing blend, Topical blend, Women's blend, and Women's monthly blend.
All of these are not recommended for internal use. Some can still be used for topical and some aromatic.
Hope that helps. I had to look it up and I am glad I did.

Oregano needs to be diluted for topical use and internal use. Where is the day care getting their oils? Clive appears to be safe without dilution. It says for kids the clove may need to be diluted for topical.

  • @sjames2 I use peppermint a lot... When I get allergies or just feel short of breath, it really helps! I was using a drop on the roof of my mouth... From what I see online, looks safe... Just want to make sure you didn't see anything conflicting ;-) thank you for the double check !!!!! :-)

Peppermint should be avoided towards the end of your pregnancy if you plan to breastfeed. It can dry up your milk.

Peppermint says some dilution should be used with internal and topical. Also for anyone nursing or planning on nursing, any kind of mint oil can dry you up!
