Hi everyone, I'm Kelly. I have a 2 year old daughter who was conveived very easily. A few weeks after she was conceived, my husband had surgery to repair a hernia. We were told there was a very small risk of infertility (1%) and it had to be done because he was in significant pain. Fast forward to now and after 3 months of trying for our 2nd, I had him go get tested as I had this nagging feeling. Results came back on Tues: azospemia (no sperm). We go in to a urologist in a few weeks to see what our options are. Hoping to join a circle also dealing with secondary infertility.

Hello and welcome! It's too bad you have to wait so long to see the urologist. Have you thought about also scheduling a consult with an RE right after the urologist appointment to discuss options as well? Good luck to you!

Hi Kelly! Welcome! We are also dealing with azoospermia (see sigy) but we don't have an explanation for ours. Hopefully your H's urologist can find a quick and easy fix! One thing I would recommend is to make sure he is seeing a urologist that specializes in fertility because not all of them do as I found out! GL!

Thanks everyone, we're feeling hopeful after everything I've read online and we are going to a urologist that specializes in fertility at a research university that had access to robotic surgical equipment. So think surgery will likely be the best option from my research on this issue. I'm also only 31 so we have time...just not the game plan we had. So glad I trusted my instincts and got him tested. @madtownkelly Welcome! I am newly back on this board myself. I have found amazing support and knowledge from the women in this community. I have a friend IRL who's husband had the surgery and they were able to freeze 5 vials of sperm. She did 3 IVF's (she had IF on her side too) and they just had a little boy. I hope your appointment goes great and I also agree with PP you should schedule an apt with an RE for after his. Get it on the calendar bc sometimes it takes time to get a new patient apt! GL!

Thanks Jeannaqueena. So did they determine in his case that reconstruction wasn't possible? How long ago had his hernia surgery been?

Thanks for the good wishes everyone. We met with the urologist on Thurs and he seems optimistic that he can fix the blockage through surgery. Ran a few tests just to make sure not a hormonal thing and then scheduling surgery ASAP. Since Dr. Is only one at university that handles male infertility, will have to wait until July for surgery. Fortunately it will likely be covered by insurance. Just wish we could get in earlier!

That's so great that he can fix it!! And even though it feels far away July is right around the corner! Hopefully you'll be busy with summer activities to make the time fly!! We went back to urologist and found out there's really nothing to be fixed because it's a production problem for my H. Well actually he said if we go through all of our vials he can cut my H's nut open like a book and try to extract some sperm. YIKES.
