Book Recommendations?

First time mom here. Looking for book recommendations outside of "What to Expect When Expecting." I research a lot online too but would like some print recos. Thanks much!

If you plan on breastfeeding, I would suggest the womanly art of breastfeeding. Buy it before you have the baby because it has good stuff you need to know beforehand. That was one of the most helpful books I read with my first, but I didn't get it until I was in the hospital. It answers a lot of questions while working through everything that comes with breastfeeding!

  • Fearless Pregnancy on Amazon. Wish you could get in kindle version but still worth it for paperback.
  • Girlfriends guide to pregnancy! Great advise that you would hear from friends, light hearted. Great read!

Just finished that! It's awesome !
  • I agree with Fearless Pregnancy. I read too much with my first pregnancy and got freaked out (thought about all the bad things), and when the baby actually came I thought I was doing everything wrong! Ha.

  • I love that I can come out here and find questions that I never even thought to ask! Thank you for posting this @Littlebirdey92212 :x
  • If you want to breastfeed, Breastfeeding Made Simple is excellent! I've heard good things about The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding, but I haven't read it. I also found Fearless Pregnancy very reassuring during my first pregnancy. It helps reduce your worries. Girlfriend Guide is funny! It's a very casual into to your first pregnancy.

  • Your Pregnancy Werk-by-Week
  • Happiest Baby on the Block to learn about the newborn stage and how to soothe. I'm going to pull mine out for review again. I think that book was the most useful with #1.
  • Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Baby
It sounds boring, and it is pretty text book-y, but it is awesome. Our 11 month old is an awesome sleeper because we followed this book. (My nephews, whose parents also used the book, are too.) The best part is the last part of the book has a little review section on each age so if all of a sudden your 9 month old is waking at 3am you can just quick fix it.
  • Girlfriends guide to pregnancy( rereading for the third time!) , pregnancy week by week, happiest baby on the block and healthy sleep, happy child.
    All my favorites!!!

I just ordered the Mayo Clinic Guide to a Healthy Pregnancy.  Some ladies on the TTGP board recommended it and said that it is so much better than What to Expect When You're Expecting.  I will definitely be putting Breastfeeding Made Simple on my list of pregnancy books to read.

I'm reading belly laughs by Jenny Mccarthy. It's more funny than educational and makes you feel like your symptoms are not weird.
  • Would you suggest breastfeeding made easy for someone who plans on mostly pumping? I'll only have 6-8 weeks off and then I'll be pumping at work. Thanks!

    https://www.breastfeedingmadesimple.com/7-laws-posters.html

I loaned my copy to my SIL, and I can't remember how informative it was about pumping. However, it discusses "7 laws" to follow for successful breastfeeding. The link above briefly describes each law. These laws basically teach you everything you need to know to successfully breastfeed and establish/maintain your supply.

The Breastfeeding board has a lot of working moms who give excellent advice, regarding pumping (amounts / frequency), building a stash, etc. I would also lurk there while you're pregnant.
