I have just had a sizing scan and LO is looking to be atleast 10lb (They measured multiple times). My midwife thinks that because my last was 10lb 5oz I don't need an induction and should just go with it. I know that if she speaks to my OB she will induce me. I am petrified to deliver another massive baby, I'm 5ft 1 and pre baby weigh 50kg so it really takes a toll on me carrying all this weight! I'm usually such a strong advocate for myself but my midwife is making me feel like I'm stressing for nothing. What do you ladies think? Should I push harder for action or leave it to nature?
Re: Should I push my Midwife??
ETA: I wouldn't think anyone would induce before 39 weeks, but maybe that's just my doctor's practice...
I will say that a MW should be there to empower you to make decisions on your own. So she should give you the info risks/benefits and the decision should be made together. So if you feel as if you are not being heard that's a problem!
That being said, barring any other complications (GD for example) the ACOG does not recommend induction for suspected 'big baby' unless it is measuring 11lbs. Growth u/s are notoriously inaccurate at this late in the game, however you do have a history of having had a big baby probably increasing the likelihood of it happening again.
I think you need more information, what's your Bishop Score? What about a membrane sweep? Did you have any complications resulting from delivering such a large baby?
If it makes you feel any better, second babies tend to be easier to deliver. With my first I pushed for an hour she was 7lb15oz with a head in the 25th%. DS was out in two pushes 8lb12oz and a head in the 75th%.
