My Twinkies are here

Hi ladies, just thought I'd share the arrival of my twins :)

My boy/girl frat twins were born May 6th at 35+3 after baby A karate kicked and my water broke. She was footling breech so I had to have an emergency C section. My spinal anesthetic didn't work at all but I didn't want to be put to sleep. I had a pile of meds and nitrous but was screaming in pain for part of it. I don't remember a large part of it but I think my poor husband has PTSD!

Baby girl was 5lb4oz and was super healthy and came home with us. She developed jaundice and needed to be readmitted for a couple days of phototherapy.

Baby boy was 6lb1oz and had transient tachypnea of the newborn (due to section and drugs used during surgery). He required a few days of CPAP and then was slow to figure out feeding.

Both are now breastfeeding like champs.

This time in the NICU has been the HARDEST time of my life but I'm looking forward to bringing them both home tomorrow <3

In retrospect I would've done a couple things differently. I worked full time until the day before I delivered. I feel unprepared and have a guilty feeling that working made me deliver early. I also didn't eat enough, I only gained 32lns and one week post delivery I'm down 7lbs from my PRE-pregnancy weight. I underestimated how much energy they would take to grow. I also should've prepared myself for the NICU stay. My Dr. said very unlikely to need NICU since they were so big and close to term. I have bawled my eyes out every single day he was here and big time when she had to come. I wish I had been more emotionally ready for that.

Good luck with your pregnancies :)

Congratulations!!!! I think it sounds like you did a fantastic job, they were both great weights!! So many babies have jaundice too. Great job momma, and thank goodness we have such great medical technology now to easily care for these little babes. T&P for a good transition to home life!
