Trying to Get Pregnant

Newbie- OPK testing and TTC :)

Hello everyone! I am new to the group and love it so far! Very informative! A little bit about whats going on with me-I am 23 and my husband is 30. We just started TTC last month. I stopped birth control (nora be) on the 26 of april after being on it for 3 years. and had spotting on the 28-29. For the past week i have been having leftsided pelvic cramping. Havent noticed a change in CM tho. I know everyone says it will be like egg whites..but it is clear and slick..but not stretchy. I have been taking the clearblue advanced ovulation test and sat, sun and today i got a blinking smiley face- high fertility! :) Does this mean i will be ovulating soon? I hope so! Any advice or tips? Thanks!

Hello!  Have you started temping?  If not I would highly recommend ordering a BBT and tracking your temp on FF.  While OPKs and CM can help clue you in on when you may be ovulating, temping is the only way to confirm that you actually did.

To answer your question, maybe.  You can have several patches of fertile CM in one cycle.  You can also have multiple LH surges (what OPKs test for) in one cycle.  This is why combining those signs with temping is recommended.

Welcome to The Bump! My advice to you is read the thread at the top called "If you could tell a newbie anything"and lurk this board. You will find lots of valuable information that will point you in the right direction. The app Fertility Friend and the book Taking charge of your fertility are highly valuable tools. Good luck.

  • Welcome!  Exactly what the other ladies said.  OPKs are helpful, but will not be able to give you the most accurate information.  If you temp with a BBT and also OPKs, much better way to tell when/ if you ovulate.

  • Clear and slick without any stretch probably is "watery" fluid, which is fertile fluid.

But as others said, OPKs and CM are secondary signs but can't be used to confirm you ovulated for sure. My advice would be to have lots of sex while you've got this type of CM, but don't assume you've ovulated - keep using the OPKs and monitoring your CM. Sometimes you can have more than one surge before ovulation.
