so I Was out running errands with hubs and there are all these Memorial Day sales going on. Sleepys has 50% of their regular prices. They have 1 crib mattresse originally 260$. What are all of your opinions? I guess how do you know which one to buy?
If it's firm, fits your crib snugly (no spaces), and within your budget, it should be good.
We went with a Sopora foam mattress, dual side, extra firm for infant and firm for toddler. Completely encased in waterproof material with seams on the side. It's light and easy to take in and out of the crib for changing sheets and very easy to clean as you can just wipe it down.
For me, I knew I wanted to get an organic mattress. There is a lot of research that shows the chemicals that "off-gas" from the mattresses can be so bad. Ironically though, I don't follow this same mindset with DH and I's mattress, which is a little contradictory I know. I think the one we ended up with is a Naturepedic. I am sure it still has some chemicals, but hey, whatever I had to do to make my crazy pregnancy mom brain happy is what I did
I have an ikea foam one. It great and no plastic cover on it. The plastic can make baby cold if you don't have a mattress flannel cover to keep baby from the plastic outer of the mattress.
I registered for the Sealy Cozy Dreams Extra Firm Crib Mattress...its around $70. I couldn't justify spending over $100 for a mattress when my crib cost $275. But I didn't want a flimsy POS either, so I did a little research to find a good one in my budget.
As PP said, as long as it is firm and fits your crib snugly, that is most important.
