I'm prone to stretch marks, I've gotten them on my hips/boobs during puberty so I'm trying to do my best to not get any on my belly! I use Shea butter lotion, and palmers makes stretch mark belly butter. Every time I shower, I use baby oil or coconut oil (when I can), followed by the lotion then a little belly butter. So far I'm 24 weeks and not a single mark. Moisturizing is key (: also drink a lot of water to help keep the elasticity in your skin.
@TeijaMac thank you I'll definitely be trying some of those, I looked down at my bump today and was blown away how bad they got like over night it seems. I haven't had really any weight gain but I've been showing since only 12 weeks..so they're pretty bad and are only gonna get worse
I also have stretch marks on my hips from puberty ... I've been rubbing organic coconut oil on my chest and belly every night before bed since probably 12 weeks and haven't gotten a stretch mark yet (knock on wood!). I've also gained 20 lbs so far (I'm 23 weeks) and am noticeably showing since I'm short and have a short torso, so my belly has definitely expanded!
Ive been using cocoa butter in the morning and a waleda stretch mark belly oil with lavender oil (the lavender makes it easier to spread) that i bought at whole foods. Ive also been putting them in my boobs. No stretch marks so far *knock on wood* but ive only began to show and Im 22 weeks. You can also use egyptian magic - it really is a magical moisturizer - though it is pricy... also sold at whole foods i work there teehee
You pretty much want a high moisturizer to help the elasticity of your skin. Stretch marks occur when the skin breaks because of rapid growth. By improving the elasticity you help your skin stretch more smoothly.
Unfortunetly stretch marks wont really go away. They may however fade away... it's also harder to prevent if you are prone to getting stretch marks. Though i read somewhere that egyptian magic helps heal stretchmarks...interesting... i may try egyptian magic when i run out
I also have stretch marks on my butt, hips and boobs from puberty so I guess I'm probe to then as well. Every butter I used I hated the smell!! But I put on coco butter anyways. It's just a few more months and hopefully no/little stretch marks. Worth the torture in my opinion. I also shower in cool water and use sope that has a moisturizer in it. Sope can really dry you up so I would even skip over washing the arias where stretch marks can develop and allow my natural body oil to fight the battle for me. Also, I exfoliate to promote new skin cells to grow and watch my weight gain. So far so nothing.
I hate to break this to you but nothing is going to prevent those from happening. My 1st pregnancy I used just about anything and everything i could imagine 2-3 times a day and I still got them. What worked was using the scar fading cream after the baby was born. The lotions does not go deep enough through the skin to where need it to to prevent from happening. And when I heard people say oh it's genetic I thought I was free and clear because my mother had three kids at 100lbs and never got any.. WRONG! But best of luck in ur search.
Honest Company Belly Balm has been great for a couple of friends! I already have them but I didn't do great with prevention. It has a strong smell, but it is nothing like the coco butter smell!
I use mama bee belly butter from burts. Non scented, love how it smoothes on and not a visible stretch yet. I'm all belly btw. Even if it's not working deep enough it's helped with my itchy skin from stretching. I use it immediately after showers. I use it on my boobs too edited to say my mother just gave me the coco butter and I hate the smell and it's thick. Will continue to use my belly butter
@chelseajeanene - I actually have noticed my previous ones are less noticeable after using the coconut oil! Considering I've had them for 14 years, I was a little surprised! I can still see them, but they aren't as prominent as they were before.
I feel for you! I have some on my sides from previous weighg gain then loss. Ive been mosturizing 3 times a day with stretch mark lotion and coconut oil but see some on my hips and inner thighs:( ive heard coconut oil and vitamin e oil is best but i think if your prone to them you will get them unfotunately! Just keep lotion with yoj and try to put in on a few times a day. I was small and then in the past two weeks ive popped big time and i think thats why i have a few popping up around my belly button
Girlllll... stretch marks are a part of pregnancy for more than half of women who have children so don't feel bad. I got them on my boobs during puberty and they were red and DEEP, like scratch marks all over (I went from a B to a DD in two years, YIKES). Good news is, I literally can barely tell they were ever there now! Stretch marks fade. Try not to worry too much girl... It's just a part of pregnancy for most women and they're nothing to be ashamed of :x .
Also, I as far as helping them fade after pregnancy, I found bio oil and Mederma (? I think it's called..) helped mine from puberty fade nicely . Also, in the 6th & 7th month, I think, is when most women start noticing stretch marks, I'm in my 6th month (24 weeks tomorrow) and already have them on my inner thighs and my belly and my hips! But I'm not stressing... They're barely noticeable and will probably get worse before little man is born but it's just part of the process. I knew I'd get stretch marks when we were trying to get pregnant (because I'm prone to them) and I know from experience they'll fade to be barely noticeable so I'm not stressing! It's all worth it .
Most don't even show till after the baby is born and then you can actually see them once your skin is no longer stretching; ) I'm thinking about laser idk?
Personally I have both the Bio Oil and Mama Mio. I like the Mama Mio more because i feel like it is more absorbant than the Bio Oil. I have been using this stuff daily after I shower (Mama Mio - the tummy rub oil) since week 12 of my pregnancy. No stretch marks so far *knock on wood*.
I've been using coconut oil and while the smell isn't my favorite either, I'll do whatever it takes to have the most moisturized skin possible! I am prone to them and got them during puberty also. Those stretch marks are barely even noticeable at this point. Just try to stay as hydrated (water, water, water!) as possible and keep lubing up the skin with whatever your choice moisturizer is. Steady weight gain is important, problem is it seems that even when you are being careful pregnancy weight gain has a mind of its own. I went from hardly looking pregnant to looking very pregnant in two weeks and I check daily expecting my first stretch mark. Hang in there! They are the markings of a mama and happen to most of us to some extent.

FYI: If you get the organic refined coconut oil, it doesn't smell like the unrefined does. I like the coconut smell of the unrefined, but it's a little too strong when I bathe myself in it before bed, so I'll be going back to the refined!
