Baby drooling a lot...teething??

My baby boy is just two months old, but I noticed that for the past week and a half, he's been drooling a lot and making bubbles with his mouth. He also makes a smacking noise with his lips. My mom says he's teething, but he just turned 2 months! Could that be it? Or maybe he's just figuring out things he can do with his mouth now? Anyone going through or has gone through something similar?

  • The teething process can begin early but won't typically cut teeth until 4-6months... I read that somewhere but my LO is doing the same and she is 10 weeks

PP is correct. Normally babies don't start teething till a bit later, but every kid is different. Bubbles, cooing, lip smacking, sticking out their tongue could be just baby "communicating" with you. Those could be his hunger cues, or he's just practicing using his mouth.

Teething is usually accompanied with excessive drooling, irritability, baby chewing on things, and sometimes fussiness during feeding (the sucking motion aggravates the gums).

My son is 2 months as well and he's doing the same. I don't think it's teething though..
  • I have heard that around this time, babies start to produce amylase in their saliva that will help with digesting solids later on. It causes them to drool more!
  • Mine is doing the same thing. Pediatrician said it's very unlikely that she's teething. I thought the same thing.
  • My son is 7 weeks and he has been very fussy lately and he chews on everything like he's constantly hungry, I try to give him the bottle and he doesn't want (only when he actually is hungry) & he's drooling like crazy & he's also blowing lots of bubbles. My family members rhink he may be teething as well..
  • At two months, infants start to produce more saliva. Also, they are still learning to swallow that saliva so they will begin to drool around this time. It's normal and most likely not teething.
