Question about at the hospital!

hey!
So we recently moved from ontario to alberta and while we do have a couple of friends here we have no family and no one is able to make it here by the time baby is due (5 days)
My question is if anyone knows if theres any kind of child care available at the hospital for our 5 yr old daughter? And if its offered 24hrs?
We dont know what were going to do with her when i go in and im really going to need hubby there for support.
Has anyone else gone through this? Or know what some of our options may be ?

Re: Question about at the hospital!

  • Call your specific hospital and ask. It will be different everywhere.

  • I'm in Alberta and as far as I know, this doesn't exist. But doesn't hurt to call. I'd perhaps start interviewing babysitters for d-day. I know where I live there are Facebook groups dedicated to babysitters in the city and you can ask on there if anyone would be willing to help out then do interviews from there.

  • I personally have not gone through this, but my friend recently had a baby out of state and her kiddo was able to stay in the room with her at all times. At one point during labor they thought she may have a c section and they informed the nurse no one could take care of their 2 year old so the nurse did mention something about a hospital rep or nursery worker (which I am assuming is like a candy stripe) coming to help with their baby when the surgery was performed. I would call to make sure and worse case they should allow children with you. Hope that helps
  • I would try to find a 24 hour, drop in day care option. or consider hiring a doula so hubby can stay with your child.
