Feel Like a Fat Cow After Eating

First off, I am 15 weeks and 2 days with our first. My husband and I are thrilled for our little nugget!

Okay...Does anyone else feel/get so bloated to the point you become short of breath because it's pushing on your diaphragm? I know shortness of breath comes with pregnancy, but I figured it would be when I'm bigger and farther along. It doesn't matter if I eat a meal or a snack, I immediately become hugely bloated. I can't get comfortable while sitting, and I feel like I just consumed a Thanksgiving lunch, which equals to feeling like a fat cow! It makes me short of breath too and just miserable. And I'm not eating a lot either when it happens! Any thoughts?

I do... not every time I eat buy if I eat like a meal my stomach gets hard and there is no possible way to suck it in. I feel like I have to sit up tall to breathe. Stuff has definitely shifted around in there. It makes me get full faster so now my husband worries I'm not eating enough.

  • Yes it happens to me! I have to eat a lot of small meals. I take one or two bites and then have to laydown. Then about five minutes later can eat one or two more bites. It really doesn't help if we go out to eat. Good luck!
  • Ditto over here. My husband teases me relentlessly. It's like my brain wants me to eat a full plate of Chinese food, but my body wants me to have an apple. No fun.

  • My stomach and intestines have shifted up- which makes me full very fast. I have to eat only about a third of what I normally would and then wait a while and I usually get hungry again and can eat a little more.
Things seem to have shifted much earlier this time, being my second. It only gets worse as you get bigger too... Which is why I'm hoping this baby comes before its thanksgiving due date!

    Soups does help a lot.
  • It's the same for me, but only when I eat a full meal. I've just started snacking constantly instead of eating meals. I would try to reduce your snack size. It might take a little experimenting to see how much food you can handle at a time.

I'm in the same boat.  Small snacks over meals right now :)

Yes!! This happens to me now too and I'm as far along as you as well. It's terrible, but a good way to keep eating in check I guess haha ;-)
  • Same here. I think I'm starving and then I can't eat. My husband keeps saying I'm wasting so much food but I can't help it! Yesterday I ordered a salad with grilled chicken and I took about 4 bites and couldn't eat anymore. It's the weirdest thing since normally I would be able to finish the whole thing easily.
  • I get this a lot.  I end up eating out a lot at work and have gotten into the habit of just ordering the kids meal so I don't waste food/money.  Bonus: My older kids love the toys.

  • I feel this after a full meal, my stomach gets very bloated and really hard and I have trouble catching my breath. Smaller meals and snacks help but what doesn't help is that I'm always hungry so smaller meals and snacks don't satisfy me.
  • Very similar! I need small meals, but very often. I try to eat more "mindful" now: slow bites, chew slowly until totally mush, swallow, slowly go in for the next bite. I eat like a cow! And then I still get a 20 week belly at 12 weeks.

Also, veggies and carbs are ok, but meat is so hard to process.
  • Ditto! I can't eat a full meal now. In addition to the bloating I feel like the food is just sitting at the top of my stomach waiting to come out if I so much as bend over.
