Breast feeding - newborn

This is my first night with my baby girl!! It is time for her to feed but she is not interested in nursing. She came out asking to nurse, and now she refused both times I offered.. Any suggestions?
Should I just wait a little and offer again?

Try rubbing your nipple against her nose down to upper lip. Be patient and she will open her mouth. Also stimulate her by tickling her feet and using your little finger to lightly poke her cheek.
    All the best.

My baby did the same thing, it was a little frustrating the first couple of days but once her hunger really set in she started nursing like a champ!!! My advice is to just be patient with her, she will latch on if she's hungry!
  • Express some milk on your nipple so she can smell it. Ask the nurses to help you and get a meeting w the lactation consultant!

  • Undress her and do some skin to skin. It's hard in the beginning because they are so sleepy. Don't worry, pretty soon she will be begging for it. ;)

  • I agree with speaking to a lactation consultant. It's good to have some support while your breastfeeding!
  • I had the same thing happen the first night with my little one. The nurse said not to worry... If he didn't want to eat despite all my efforts to just do skin to skin for a period of time (this also regulates baby's blood sugar and stimulates milk production). Baby is just sleepy and it will get better as more time goes by. Talking to lactation consultant is never a bad idea if you have concerns/questions. They are great resources. Good luck mama! You are doing great!
