3rd Trimester

30 weeks... just hit a sleep wall. Anyone tips?

I am just so tired!  I shouldn't complain because I have had a pretty "easy" pregnancy so far (no morning sickness, no sciatica, no back pain...) but omg the last few days have left me absolutely exhausted.  I almost stayed home from work today not confident I could function.  Sleep is interrupted with vivid dreams and just all over... uncomfortableness.  I know this is just the beginning because soon a small baby is going to be hungry and waking me every 2-3 hours, but my goodness!

Anyone have any non-caffeine related tips?  Really appreciate the help or just...the commiserating!  I hope I am not alone and being a big fat baby about this!

Small 30 minute naps! Anything longer will leave you more tired.

I haven't slept more than a few hours in a row in the past few months (almost 38 weeks now).  My doc recommended Unisom, which definitely did help until the last few weeks when there's just no getting comfortable.

The only things that seem to help are keeping the room really cool (I'm like a damn furnace), no little lights anywhere (I literally unplug the TV, cable box and shut off our phones), no eating or drinking a few hours before bed, wearing compression socks, putting gel ice packs on my feet (to help keep the swelling down) and sleeping with a really good pillow between my knees.

I also cat-nap if I get comfortable anywhere.   And it sounds counter-productive when you're already exhausted, but exercise helps a ton too.
  • Thanks ladies! I'm going to try the cold room and exercise tonight and then ask my Dr about unisom... that would be amazing!
  • The recliner has really helped me, I couldn't get comfortable in bed.
  • I know it sounds weird, but going to bed later was what worked for me. I was going to bed between 9pm-9:30... but when I tried to keep myself awake and busy and go to bed around 11pm, I felt a lot better the next day. Not sure why.

Also pillows. Lots and lots of pillows.

  • I take Benadryl, it works every time.

This is a really good list!

My husband has been wearing winter pajamas (like fleece pants) to bed because he's so cold. I am using only a sheet and am still so hot!! I wish I could come up with a way to keep the leg under the pillow from getting so warm!
  • Good tips, and you are not alone. I feel like I have hit a sleep wall.
