VBAC after 18 months

Hi all,
I'm new to this board as I just found out I'm pregnant with my 2nd.  I've just started doing research about VBAC's and everything I'm reading is saying I wouldn't be a candidate for a vbac so I'm just looking for any experience with this.  My son will be 18 months when the new baby comes along, has anyone tried to do a vbac that soon?  Will the doctor allow it?  Obviously I know I'm going to talk to my doctor about this but figured I'd see what other moms have done.  Thanks!

    Hi and congrats! I am in the same boat, my daughter will be 19 months when the next one comes. I really want to try for the VBAC!

    I had a vbac about 21 months from my section. Doctor didn't seem to think that timing was an issue. I did end up rupturing but likely had nothing to do with to do with timing between births.

    Uterine rupture is what I've read is the biggest risk with the short time between births...did yours cause any permanent damage?  Sorry I hope this isn't too personal but I'm really interested in your experience as I just want to prepare myself as best I can before talking to the doctor!  Thanks!

    My Dr let me attempt a VBAC 17 months after my 1st csection.


    TTC#1 for 19 months with PCOS and MFI IUI#3 + injectables = BFP!!!!  Beta#1-134(13dpiui) Beta #2-392(15dpiui)

    TTC#2 - Beta #1 -51@10dpo Beta#2 -1353 @16dpo
    #2 born May 2013
    TTC # 3 June 2014 BFP 12-1-14

    I am in the same exact boat! My LO will be 18 mos when baby arrives too. Does it sometimes have to do with the reasoning behind why you had a c-section in the first place? I am curious to know what other mamas have done!

    @aliedudley I think yes.  I had a failed induction so they told me at my 6 wk pp check up that I had a choice the next time.  But as I'm continuing to do the research, it's better to let your body heal longer before getting pregnant again to lessen the chance of uterine rupture.

    The more research I do the more scared I get.  The worst situation would be to attempt the vbac and still end up with a c -section.

    I am in a similar situation. I had a c section with my twin boys. I absolutely hated. It is something I never want to go thru again. But my boys will only be 15 months when the new baby will be born. So im scared no one will want to do a vbac on me plus I got preeclampsia with my first pregnancy. Has anyone had success in a similar situation?? Could really use some advise. Thanks so much.

    Sorry @nyinnc25, I haven't been back in a while so I just saw your question, but there were no serious long term effects, except not being able to have anymore kids. My son was born with an apgar of 1, but was up to 8 by 5 minutes. He was only on the nicu the first night and seems perfectly healthy and wonderful now. My recovery was pretty long. My csection scar had fused to my bladder and cervix, so they tore also and I needed a catheter for 2 weeks. Over a year out and feeling pretty normal now.

    If anyone had any specific questions about the experience I am happy to talk about it. I'll try not to disappear this time :)

    My LO will be 18 months when this baby comes and my doctor didn't even have to wait for me to ask about the vbac, she suggested it. The c-section last time was because my water broke but I wasn't really "in labor" so they gave me pitocin, which did nothing. So basically a failed induction except for my water breaking.

    @jesselayne8 ...you say your doc let you attempt a vbac...was it successful?

    I too am in the same boat as you guys. My son is 18 months and my daughter is due in 6 weeks. They say I'm a good candidate for a vbac...but I'm terrified of uterine rupture! Really leaning toward a repeat C section. :/

    No, I never went into labor. My Dr agreed to induce me by breaking my water. I never progressed past 6cm. I would do it all over again and would even try a 3rd time if my Dr would let me.
