Eeeek!!! Family gathering, not ready to spill the beans yet!

My in laws are loud, obnoxious, fabulous party drinkers at any gathering... Especially our camping trips. We have our Great American Memorial Day camping trip next weekend and you can guarantee beer pong, flip cup, etc. are a given. In fact, I bet teams have already been established.
I will be 6wks along next week, and I'm not ready to spill the beans... Anybody have experience faking like your drinking to play the part, acting like they all expect you too... Or do I just say I don't feel well (which IS the case) I am worried they will see right through me, and start asking questions. And I don't have a good poker face lol.
Anybody have experiences to share that can relate?

  • I went to the KY Derby with about 10 girls 3 days after I found out. The Derby is often compared to Mardi Gras. I held a beer, put it to my lips and pretended to drink all day. At derby I asked the bartenders to make my drinks virgins. Because it looked like I was drinking no one said anything. If they ask you to play a drinking game say you don't feel good. No one will say anything if they think you are still drinking. Good luck!
  • The antibiotic one worked for me! With my 1st. I also stayed away from things, like Halloween parties. I was often exhausted anyway so it worked out.
  • A dark colored beer bottle can hide a lot. I usually dump it out when no one's looking (I know, alcohol abuse!) and refill it with water. As long as you can decline the drinking games, you're good. Or would anyone notice if you played beer pong and DH drank your share? The drunker they get, the less observant they'll be. ;)

My drink of choice is vodka and water. My husband cleaned out the vodka bottle and filled it with water. So I was drinking water and water all day! Also, my husband is famous for making jello shots :) so we made some without liquor so I could still participate! All peach jello shots for me. No one knew noticed!
  • These are all such great ideas!!! Thank you!!!!

THIS has been a current struggle for us - we drink almost every time we are together with DH's family! This weekend is 4 days of non-stop drinking. haha I will definitely try some of these strategies!

    Pregnancy Ticker

    BabyFruit Ticker
  • I made a sangria thing a few weekends ago when we had people over... It was moscato, pink lemonade concentrate, sprite and raspberries. I also made one without the moscato and just made sure either me or my DH got my refills. Since it's a BBQ type of thing maybe something like that would make sense!

  • I'm so glad I'm a light weight and so hardly drink, my friends and family are surprised WHEN I drink, not when I don't haha.

I do like the antibiotics excuse though!
  • I had my beat friends wedding the weekend of my BFP. As we have been drinking buddies forever she would have known right away so I just asked the bartenders at each bar on the post wedding bar crawl to make me something fruity without alcohol. People would taste my drink and say "omg that's so good, you can't even taste the alcohol" and I would give credit to the bartender for being good at his job!

Also red solo cups are awesome. Put whatever you want in there, no one will no the difference! Use that to play drinking games.
