"Just thought you were pudgy" a store clerk says

so I was at the store today buying a cute journal to start for the baby about the pregnancy. I picked a cute journal with owls on it. I'm checking out and as she rings it up and looks at me and ask "oh do you like owls?" I smiled and said "yes and I thought it would be cute for a baby. I'm starting one about my pregnancy" she looks at my stomach and I do have a cute little bump going. Then she says "oh I just thought you were pudgy." Ouch that stung a bit. I smiled and shrugged it off but who in their right mind says that to someone??? I was floored. (Picture is my belly today)

Ouch... I would have replied maybe I am "pudgy", I'm pregnant... What's your excuse? How nasty of someone!

Edit to post, you're NOTED pudgy at all

  • Excuse me? Ummm...that is very clearly a baby bump!
I would have gone to the manager because that is just flat out rude to say to a customer!

From the moment I held you in my arms, I knew it was meant to be.

    I adore her smile,
    I cherish her hugs,
    I admire her heart.
    But most of all,
I love that she is my daughter.

  • You look super cute!! I can't believe she would say that. People these days.. :-@
  • That deserves a throat punch. Who says things like that?!
  • That is so rude. Unfortunately random strangers commenting about your bellies size only continues to get worse the bigger you get.
  • Why are people such dingle-doos. Ugh!

Haha! Dingle-doos is funny. I like that!
  • You were much nicer than I would have been. As one of the people above said I would have asked what her excuse for "pudge" was lol

Right. And the fact that she was a good 200 at the least was crazy too for that comment
  • That's actually highly inappropriate and rude to say to a customer. You should speak to a manager. Also she is so stupid because you look absolutely adorable with your obvious baby bump!!
  • Wowwwww. I worked at a clothing store that had a maternity section and we were instructed to never assume a woman was pregnant, even if she looked ready to pop! To tell someone you thought they looked pudgy? How rude!
  • I am so afraid of this! I have a tiny bump too, and my clothes are getting uncomfortable now and I feel like if I shop in the maternity section people will think this :( I am so sorry that person said that to you!
  • When I was quite large with my 2nd I had a cashier ask me if it was twins. It wasn't then said "you must eat really good". My mom was making the purchase so I just walked away. I was floored she would say that let alone to a customer's. I am 5'1 so not much room for the baby but out. Still I don't care if I looked like I was caring 5 babies you never say that. Sorry she was an ass. Sadly a lot of people loose weight comment filters around pregnant women.
