Frustrating Induction

yesterday I went in for my 38 week appointment around noon and was told my blood pressure was too high and to get to labor and delivery. I head over there and they set me on a medication that softens your cervix (can't remember the name) they wait four hours and see the progress and decide if they should start pitocin. Well after 3 rounds of this pill so 12 hours I had only made a tiny bit of progress and the doctor says he never gives 3 rounds of it and definitely never sees that little of progress. Regardless he started pitocin and after 5 hours on that I was having contractions but nothing regular and hadn't dilated at all. My cervix was and is still way up there. The doctor came in and said he made a mistake by sending me in for induction because he got my blood work and urine back and I don't have preeclampsia just hypertension. So he said there is no reason to continue the pitocin since it wasn't doing anything and that he sees no reason for a c section (which I am thrilled about) however I am frustrated that I spent such an exhausting day at the hospital for no reason. My family flew in and now I am leaving the hospital empty handed. Just disappointing and exhausting. Now doctor is worried my cervix won't drop and I'll have a c section anyways. Ugh anyone else have anything similar?

I had my baby on May 6th  (40+2) and was induced because I was 5 cm dilated and not in labor. My doctor started me on pitocin and I was on it for 2 1/2 hours with not a single contraction. As soon as they broke my water I felt contractions immediately. My daughter was born 1 hours and 10 minutes after my water broke (10 minutes of pushing). It's possible for pitocin not to work. It didn't work on me. Good luck!

Pitocin worked verrrrrrry slowly with me too- broken water caused a little more progress. Hang in there- they will come
  • The less "ready" you are the harder it is to induce.
  • I was induced on a Monday evening and didn't have DS until Thursday afternoon.  However I wasn't allowed to leave the hospital. They immediately put an IV line in once I arrived and they said once I am there I'm there to stay.  It was a rough few days.

Sounds like they gave you cytotec.  I'm surprised they didn't do Cervidil which is a 12 hour medication that helps ripen your cervix.
