Dr today

i went in for my glucose test today
I gained 9lbs this month
Dr was not happy!
It's crazy bc I just don't feel like I've been eating crazy. I am so upset

Re: Dr today

  • I gained 15 in 6 weeks and my doctor said my weight gain was right on track even though I was seriously freaking out. I think some doctors are just a little more harsh than others. I would think that as a long as baby is healthy and growing on track it isn't that big of a deal. Relax mama :)

    I am so embarrassed.

She just stared at me like "how did you let this happen?"

    Just Mortified.

She left the room saying "If you continue to put on weight like this by your next appointment we need to sit down and have a serious talk."

I'm so sorry that's happening :( you shouldn't have to dread going into the dr. For fear of being scolded!
  • Wow, I think she could of handled it a little better.......my doctor was very nice when one of my appointments he thought I gained too much. He made it a light conversation, I would say unless you've been gaining a crazy amount of weight the entire thing reacting like that may be nesseary. However, that doesn't seem to be the case, rude.
  • Geez, i feel horrible for you. Please don't let it upset you too much. That was awful of your dr. I had gained 12 pds my last appointment ( only second gain , i had lost 16pds in the first few months ). My dr mentioned it but did not make a huge deal of it, she asked me to keep an eye on it and be cautious but even said that in no way was she lecturing me. I'm waiting at my doctors now and just found out I lost 5pds from my last visit.... the weight fluctuations are frustrating and a little scary, but we are growing a human here, none of it is text book!
  • That's just awful. It happened to me too. I was SO upset and embarrassed. Like PP said, you shouldn't have to dread going to the doctor...I did. And when I went back I told them straight up what I was eating and he ended up feeling kinda dumb bc I'm not using pregnancy as an excuse to get fat and he realized that. You hear enough garbage from strangers every day, you shouldn't have to hear it from your dr as well. Try not to worry or stress. Keep doing what you're doing and be prepared to have that conversation next time....so maybe she will get off your back too!

I had a Doctor like that with my first pregnancy! She would just speak her mind and tell me things like if you continue this way, you are being selfish and not thinking about your baby, I would go home crying...at the end of my pregnancy she scared me into getting induced because I had GD and she thought I was going to have a 10 lbs baby...I ended up with a c-section after 24 hours in labor and blamed her for that! I should have never been induced, the baby was only 7.7 lbs...so with my second I switched Drs and I am so happy I did! This Dr is so layed back and doesnt make uneccessary comments...my second baby was a VBAC and hopefully this one will be too :)

Dont let her rude comments get to you and if you plan on having another baby after this, switch doctors!!

If she had started the conversation with "Its good we are doing your sugar test today because xyz could be a sign of GD" I may have felt better.

Instead, she started by saying "Wow! Do you know how much weight you gained this month?"...all while shaking her head

But then looked back at my chart and said ok, so you put on one pound in dec...lost two by jan....and remained at the same weight jan feb march and april. Hmmm....but you put on 9 pounds between april and may." And then said, "Yea ummm if you continue to gain weight by your next appointment we are really going to need to talk."

Embarrassed but I changed my diet starting today. For lunch I had a large salad and im drinking a lot of water.

Waiting of the results of my sugar test. Perhaps if that's bad it could explain some things....and if its not....well then I have nobody to blame but myself

OMG that's awful! My dr said the same thing to me in my last appointment. I could feel my face flush and I wanted to cry!  Don't stress about the weight. Everyone's pregnancy is different and doctors, though they are experts, can be wrong about things. My husband wanted to punch her in the face.
  • I gained 13 pounds between 4 week check up. Of course when I saw the scale, I freaked out because I didn't feel like I had gained that much, nor did I think I was going that crazy with consuming food. I waited for the doctor to scold me. When he didn't bring it up, I was like " so, this weight gain... Is this bad?" He said. "Oh no not at all. I usually expect for there to be one big jump in weight gain between the second or third trimester. Now if it happens more than once we'll have to talk, but this is totally normal." And he's been right. Since then it's been about a pound gained per week and he's fine with that! I wouldn't worry too much.

    Wish I had your Dr
  • I had an OB that was like that with my first baby. He told my I probably had GD even though I hadn't tested for it yet and wanted to do weekly ultrasounds so he could induce me as soon as the baby was big. I fired him immediately. Best thing I ever did. I didn't get GD and my baby was born naturally 2 weeks late at 7lbs 12oz.
