Piercings anyone??

Okay, I have my nipple and belly pierced. Do not judge I'm not asking for judgement. Just advice, when should I take them out? I will be taking my nipple ring out permanently but when should I? As for my belly ring, there is a pregnancy belly ring to replace it so the hole won't close which I will put in but when for that too? Thanks in advance! (:

I would say as soon as they start to hurt. I think when your in labor you need to remove all jewelry in the hospital. I would also be very careful with things to make sure everything stays clean, the last thing you want is an infection in an open hole.

  • Oh no, they're already healed. I've had them for a while. I'm just asking when should I take them out.
  • I had my nipples pierced but due to fibroadenoma In my breasts I had to remove them I still have my belly pierced as I get bigger I plan to change to a pregnancy one. With my breasts feeling they do now I would have probably already taking my nipples piercings out but idk how your boobs feel lol. I'm 6w 5d.
  • I have my left nipple pierced which doesn't hurt, only my right one is sore since I found out. I'm 4w6d.
  • @vidatorr As long as your comfortable in your piercings it should be fine. Once milk comes in the piercings might have to be taken out (not sure when milk comes in or if you have to) I plan on breastfeeding but I'm also a FTM so Idk when milk comes in. But they shouldn't affect anything as long as there kept clean even though they are healed.
  • I had my belly button pierced and my doc said I had to take it out by my 20 week ultrasound. Not sure what the reasoning was.
  • Thanks yall.
  • I left my belly ring in until I went into labor with my first. I put it back in when I got home and currently have it in. I've had mine for 15 years now. Haha makes me feel old! But I plan to keep it in again for as long as I can.

I had my nipples pierced for almost 2 years Before my first pregnancy. It ended in ectopic and I had to take them out for the surgery. I just never put them back in. I did read up on nipple piercings and breastfeeding and there is nothing wrong with it and it won't affect your supply.

  • Thank you for that, a lot of women say I won't be able to breast feed but I searched it and many answers saying yes and no. So I wasn't sure but thanks a lot!

I think the problem has more to do with the baby latching. Latching is very difficult on its own and I could see a ring causing problems for their tongue and suction. It would not effect supply though.

Hi! I had my nipples pierced for 9 years before baby #1. When I took them out to do the first breastfeeding after birth, they sealed up that night, so I think if you'd like to keep them till then as a last hurrah that's awesome! I miss mine all the time. But with as much breastfeeding I'm doing with baby #1 and now for future baby, it's worth losing them.
  • I'm so glad I found this thread! I have my belly button pierced and was worried about it closing up or stretching all crazy during pregnancy. And I'm still young enough that I want to keep it for a while longer after delivery! I'll have to look for that pregnancy piercing for when that day comes. Thank you all :)

They're very cheap on Amazon, only about $5. (:
  • The ultrasound tech told me by my 20th week I would have to take out my belly ring.
Which I think is a load of crap. Sure I'll take it out for the ultrasound but I'm not keeping it out. It's my body, my choice.
I'm gonna end up buying pregnancy belly rings, and I plan on being very clean with it. I know they get infected easily.
But I was upset with the tech, she wasn't even any of my doctors. Just a tech.
  • I took my belly ring out right away when I found out I was pregnant. I had it for 10 years prior to that. I haven't worn it in 3 years now, but I can still put it in lol!

I can't see why you would *have* to take it out. I think it would be a personal choice in the end.
  • I've got both nipples and my hood pierced so I'm very interested in this topic lol! I'm 6w and 6days.
  • For some reason it cut off the second part of my reply, I have 2 belly piercings, they started getting red around 7 months, I went to a pierce shop to ask what they thought, they recommended taking out, and said I could re thread once a week if I was worried about holes sealing up. I did that, and put back in after baby, no problem. The only issue I heard with pregnancy rings is sometimes the plastic can irritate some women's skin.

I just cringed at the thought of the pain! lol! But I have always been interested in that piercing!
  • I have both nipples and my hood as well. The doctor kept reminding me I would need to take it out with my last pregnancy but I left it in til I was being wheeled into the delivery room then my husband took it out for me lol

I cringed too. My ears hurt bad enough. Lol.

I had no idea they made pregnancy belly button rings. I learned something new!

Thank you so much!! I'll be adding that onto my next Amazon order!
  • I kept my nipple rings in for about a month after baby was born, but I took them out each time I breastfed. It became a pain so I left the out permanently after that. My belly ring I took out for a few months towards the end of my pregnancy, but put it back in afterwards.
  • I'm lurking from Dec. 15 but I changed mine to a longer belly ring (not maternity but the ones for really over weight people) at 9 weeks because my bloating was awful and mine was getting uncomfortable. I was pierced with that one because I was very overweight when I got mine pierced then lost 100 lbs and could wear a normal one so I already had it on hand, but my midwife says I have to either take it out or switch it to a non metal flexible ring by my 20 week scan. Hope that helps.

I have a hood piercing, and I think I'm just going to take it out. We've been through a lot together, but perhaps I should move on. :(:(:(

BTW..it was the easiest and least painful piercing I've ever gotten. Had Bellybutton done twice and it was HORRIBLE. Nipples weren't that bad either, but I took those out when I had my augmentation.

I took my nipple ring out already at about 5 or 6 weeks because I started to grow bumps on the sides where the piercing goes in and out of.
  • I took my belly button ring out as soon as I found out I was pregnant with DD, never bothered to try and put it back after.

    ***warning ick factor below***

My sister had her belly button pierced and I think she left hers in too long during her pregnancy, because her piercing site split apart :(
  • With my first I left my belly ring in.  I shouldn't have.  Once I was in my 3rd trimester it REALLY started to hurt and turn red. I recommend taking it out.

This is me too. I kept it in until my induction, and put it back in when I came home from the hospital

  • I had to take my piercings out when I was 8 or 9 months pregnant with my first baby.  My nipples had actually started to grow AROUND the barbells, and I was worried they would get swallowed up :-( Thankfully I was able to get them off, and my nipples went back to normal size/shape after delivery.

  • m 9 weeks and my nipples are so sore and sensitive. i had to remove my nipple piercings last week! Feels better already
  • I'll get a pregnancy belly button ring . I've had it for about 18 yrs. I'll put it in once I start growing. I doubt it will heal over that quick though.
  • I'm not certain that this will allow me to share my picture, but I've had my belly done for seven years. With my first pregnancy I only gained 28lbs. I went from 103 to 131. I didn't get any stretch marks anywhere, I barely showed. I have a long torso, but I'm only 5'6. I left my belly ring in the entire time, maybe even had the plastic pregnancy ones in during delivery. My skin over the hole is the only thing that stretched. I haven't put it back in or tried, but if say that's the only thing you'll need to watch for. I'm not certain if it happens often or not.

VCH here too. I was able to keep it in all the way up to right before pushing. Not a big deal at all.

  • Wow I didn't know there was a pregnancy belly ring. Thanks. I have mine pierced too so I'll have to look into that b

  • I have both nipples and belly button done as well. I'm trying to decide whether or not to take them out. None of my piercings are bothering me right now. I guess I'll wait and see how things go. I'm 7w3d
  • I wish my belly button hole would close up! I got it when I was 16, took it out less than a year later. Am 27 and still have an impressive hole.
  • I don't have these piercings but I've seen people with them at work. Basically the belly ring is completely your choice on when it comes out. The nipple rings will be a henderance to your baby trying to breastfeed as it's a hard enough skill to learn without a foreign object in their way. I've also seen breastmilk shoot from all 3 holes. It's crazy!

That all being said, the really important thing is these things (and anything else metal) should be removed when you hit the door of L&D. If for any reason you were to have an emergency c/s and the nurses missed one or you didn't have time to remove it you can get serious burns around the rings due to the equipment they use in the surgery. You also don't want to be fumbling with it while your baby's heart rate is down and they are rushing to save it. In a perfect world this would never happen, but better to be prepared.

I had my navel pierced for many years before my first pregnancy. I did not get stretch marks but the piercing hole itself became one nasty stretch mark. I have contemplated seeing a cosmetic surgeon because of it. I wish I never had it.

  • I have dermal implants in my back... guess i'll settle for burns!
