Spinning Babies- transverse

i am 32 weeks, everything is healthy. At my ultrasound last week he was laying horizontal (transverse) and he has been that way awhile because his head is always on my right side. My doctor didn't say anything, but for the past two days it's been pretty uncomfortable. It feels like a sack of potatoes is under my right rib and on top of my right hip. I sometimes feel a flutter (a foot I'm assuming) on the left side but everything is on the right. I was reading an article about spinning babies and saw there was a position to do to try and get them to the right position. I didn't realize after 32 weeks being horizontal could be worrisome? Has anyone felt the baby like I'm talking about and did they move? I'm not stressing however I would like him to head the right way sometime, especially since it feels like he is looking for a way out and pushing my right side isn't the way. Any advice, thoughts or experiences are welcome thank you in advance!

Re: Spinning Babies- transverse

  • I'm almost 33 weeks and mine has been like that every ultrasound. Dr didn't say anything about it being bad. Just said he still has time to turn and if he doesn't turn by 35 weeks if I want I can go into the hospital and they will try to turn him. But I asked my friend who is a head nurse for labor & delivery what I could do and she said do the on all fours move that's seen online and if you can have somebody rub lotion on your stomach kind of like guiding baby around that could work. Don't push a lot though. If not wanting to do that then just try the all four move.

  • @mom3babies thank you! Are you feeling a lot of force on one side too?
  • No this lil brat likes to sit literally right in the middle of my stomach so most of the force is there. His head usually is on the left side because my placenta is on my right side. But when he's "trying to escape" it's defiantly right in the middle. My husband said I had a camel hump the other night because when I laid flat on my back you could tell he was all up in one spot like he thought it was the exit or something.
  • @mom3babies it's good to hear mine isn't the only one trying to escape through the wrong way! I did try the forward inversion position for 30 seconds, we will see in a few days of he balances his weight out. My right hip would ache so badly it would make me limp! The weight needs to even out soon!!
  • Well hopefully these stubborn kids get the memo soon to where the right exit is and go there instead. Lol
  • Yes she is also transverse it is very painful!! I have tried positions to turn her no luck yet tho
  • OMG I have the same thing mine is all in the upper right area under my rib cage. I can't breathe I am ready for her to discover the bottom half of my uterus.
  • @LittleRue @gatormom73 I was reading on the spinning babies site and they say it's because the ligaments could be too tight or loose in the pelvic area which would keep them high up and horizontal. Tightness from sports or car accidents which I found interesting bc pre pregnancy I had to go to Chiro for car accidents. I'm researching because as yall know the discomfort really sucks. I have a boulder pushing out the right side of my stomach under my ribs lol please little boy go the other way!
  • Both of my kids were transverse until late-term. I'm only 30w with this one, but it seems to be, too. The stretching/fullness feeling on my sides can be painful! I didn't know about Spinning Babies or techniques like that with DD but I did them with DS and he turned at 34 or 35 weeks.

  • My baby was transverse until last week.   I did the exercises on the spinning babies website.   I sort of hang off the couch head down for 30 seconds.   Then I spend 10-15 min on all fours afterwards.   I also sit on a birthing/ exercise ball all the time instead of the couch or recliner.   Before bed, when the baby is really active, I usually do all fours for a while longer.   It's easier for them to turn when they are smaller.   If you get to 35-36 weeks and they havent moved, sometimes they are wedged into their current position.

  • @mirrenrue that's really interesting about the tight ligaments! Have you stumbled on the side-lying pelvic floor release on the Spinning Babies website? I've tried it a few times with help from DH, but I'm never sure if we're doing it right! :-S

  • @kate5all I saw that position and I'm a little scared to try it! Lol I did the forward inversion and I'm really watching my posture while I sit on the couch which is no fun. He hasn't tried to bulldoze my right side yet today so maybe these are working?! I did sit on the floor and touch the bottom of my feet together like a stretch but I kept it for a long time and it felt like it did some good.
  • I'm in the same boat ladies, I'm 32 weeks and my baby has been transverse for at least 8 weeks. His head is wedged in my right hip and butt is on the left. I agree it's so uncomfortable. My dr also did not seem worried at my last appointment so we shall see. Good luck everyone!
  • I am currently 31 weeks and my baby keeps flipping back to breech. I have been wanting to start the spinning babies exercises to see if it will help baby get the message

Im 31 weeks and successfully flipped baby after being transverse the whole pregnancy with the exercises online. I waited until she was really active in the evening and it worked! I couldn't believe it. The relief was so great. She was bulging on my right side and it was so painful. Good luck everyone! Hope those babies flip soon!
  • Same here. Transverse is painful. She flips back and forth right now she's finally head down again but sometimes she will do that for a day then snuggle into a transverse position for several days. I'm going to try spinning babies to try and keep her head down.
  • Doing the forward inversion helped loosen my ligaments I think bc after doing that for four days he dropped some and I had some cramping. Ever since then he is all over the place. Right side on the ribs and I'll feel movement on my left hip at the same time. I don't know what he is doing in there. I'm just going to let him do whatever, I have an ultrasound in two weeks (when I'm 36 weeks) and I'm sure I'll be told one thing if he isn't where he should be.

Hi , mines been in transverse lie forever head to left while he kicks his placenta, to top it off he's big measured 4lbs at 30 weeks. I'm only 5'2" this isn't my first but he's my biggest and Looks like if he doesn't move soon he won't be able to due to size. I don't have gestational diabetes either and only gained 12 lbs so far no idea what to do.
  • @christinakey a couple of weeks ago I did the forward inversion position on spinning babies and now he has dropped. It's a huge difference, still uncomfortable due to cramps and aching pelvis but at least he is getting in the right position.
