FTM.40w appt...membrane sweep, 2cm 80%effaced, -2station, scheduled induction

I am 40w1d today. At my 40w appt. Sono shows baby is 8lbs8oz. I'm adamant about vaginal delivery. My doc swept my membrane. Nothing has happened...yet. she said i was a "tight 2cm dilated" (the only change.) I am still 80%effaced ,soft cervix, and baby still -2 station from last 2 internal exams.

She said to wait for baby to come on her own over the weekend. If baby doesn't, doc wants to schedule induction for either mon/tues/wed. Waiting to hear back from the hospital for a room.

Pitocin is going to be used from what doc says.

My birth plan was to not use pit, no csect, yes epi. How can i make this work vaginally?

I heard low dose pit? Hold out on epi? If so, at what dilation should i ask for it? I dont want to stall out and end up csect.

My main goal is to have the baby vaginally. She is measuring 90th percentile. Any tips/advice? Success stories? What/when to ask/say no to interventions?

  • I have had 3 boys so far , and back when I had them the doctors made me wait to be two weeks over due before they did anything. All of them were 9 to 10.5 pounds at birth and in the 90% or bigger. The biggest of course was my 1st child and I had no problems delivering vaginally. Good luck !
  • The problem with a birth plan is that you can't plan for " no c section". You can make choices about various aspects of your birth but a c section is often not something in your control.
Keep in mind an induction by no means ruins your shot at a vaginal birth. It shouldn't change your decision for an epidural. I wouldn't worry too much about baby's weight as its only an estimate, and your body could be more than capable of birthing a baby that size and you can still have a successful vaginal birth.
Can I ask why you don't want pitocin? It does make the contractions come harder and faster but they should be tolerable with an epidural.
With my first, I had an induction that started with cervadil at 9 am because I was 0 cms, by 3 pm I was at 3 cms.. But then everything stalled when I reached 5 or 6, so they broke my water and gave me pitocin ( no epi). I was able to fully dialate, so I would say my induction was successful. Mind you he ended up being a C anyway because he was sunny side up. Hard to plan for that!
With my third , she was vba2c, and I was induced just by having my water broken. Pitocin wasn't allowed or necessary, and I had a successful delivery.
