3rd Trimester

Hospital Bag

Hey Mommas!

This is my second child, and as crazy as it sounds I didn't have one for my first child. I had one outfit for her and one night gown for myself.

I was put on bed rest due to starting to dilate at 7 months. I was told to start packing my hospital bag....T
What suggestions does everyone have? What do we need and do not need?

Also, any suggestions on nursing pajamas or bras? I did not breastfeed with my first, so this is also new to me.

Re: Hospital Bag

  • I have 2 night gowns packed (because I know I'm having a repeat c section) they both button down so I can nurse. But as for nursing, it's super convenient to have a few nursing bras and tank tops. I preferred "undercover mama" brand but I know there are many more to chose from.

  • Thank You, I as well am having a repeat C-section, and to be honest I didn't even think of having a button down one.

  • I brought my own meds: Ibuprofen, iron supplements, stool softeners (because they'll prescribe these and charge you a million dollars for them.)

I was always more comfortable in the hospital gowns (and the mesh panties - so sexy!) so I only brought my going-home clothes: yoga pants and a baggy shirt. I've never been a fan of nursing bras - I just use the ones that hook in the front.

I've never taken a shower at the hospital. Some ladies do and recommend bringing your own toiletries and towels because theirs usually suck. I did, however, bring facial cleaning wipes and I was soooo so glad I did.

I brought a backpack that included a couple extra outfits for myself, DH and DS. I also brought my own face wash and travel size shampoo/conditioner.
I suggest bringing a boppy pillow if you have one, I ended up sending DH home to grab mine because regular pillows just didn't work as well for nursing. I bought a nursing bra from target for like 20 bucks and it worked out fine.
You could also bring some snacks for after delivery because buying hospital food can get expensive.
Basically just bring whatever you think will make you the most comfortable because I assume you will be there for a couple days.
  • Right now my hospital bag contains..

going home outfit for me- pants, jacket, t-shirt, nursing bra, sports bra, socks, flip flops/tennis shoes. (our weather has been all over the place.

going home outfit for the baby-  new born summer romper, newborn sleeper, 0-3 month romper and 0-3 month sleeper since I'm not sure how big he is.  socks. Hat. blankets.

    Diapers/wipes

toilettries for me- face wash, shampoo/conditioner, lotion, nursing pads, underwear/pads, q-tips.. make up.. brush.. anything you might want.

    phone charger

I think that's all I have in there right now..  but I will be bringing my own pillow too.. probably my body pillow.

I never bother bringing my own birthing gown or night gown because they just get gross from delivery anyways. I just wear the hospital gowns but I bring socks and my own underwear.
