Dr. says I may deliver a week early?

I'm 35 weeks and at my appt yesterday, the dr said she thinks the baby may come a week or 2 early.  I didn't ask, she offered up this info freely, so of course I was on cloud 9.  Don't want to get my hopes up too high.  Anyone else in the same boat? or have had this told to them in previous pregnancies, only to be let down?

Thanks!!!

What is her reasoning for her to say that? FTM here myself and I would be perfectly content delivery at 38-39 weeks! haha.

There is honestly no way of knowing LO birthday. It's always hopeful when the doctor says they may come early and it's definitely nice to have little one in your arms asap. But and this is a huge but... Take it with a grain of salt. Look at may boards and you will see often times or not women are actually going over the due date. Babies need those few weeks in the womb to get good and strong too. My doc keeps telling me I won't make it to next weeks app. I will take a bet I will make to the app just fine. Doctors in general tell mommas this at least from my opinion to keep them feeling positive and hopeful during our last miserable phase. As great as it will be to meet your baby just remember that all pregnancies are different and your doctor cannot be 100% on something like that unless it's a scheduled section or induction. I'm unaware of any certain circumstances you may be under but this is just generally speaking of course. I am not a professional. I wish you the best of luck though and I can't wait for you to meet your little angel:)

With my first pregnancy my doctor told me I was going to go early and 4 hours later my water broke. I had my son at 37 weeks. Good luck.

Went to a specialist that told me I would most likely deliver at 34 weeks.....I'm currently 36 weeks. Which I'm happy about but they do not know everything :)

My doctor said I was high risk for preterm labour at 31 weeks and that I could deliver anyday... or LO could decide to wait it out and I could be a week past my original due date! Lol the other doctors I asked at triage have always told me 'we're not really good at making these kind of guesses, it's always up to the baby'. :)
  • Thanks, everyone. She didn't have any reasoning for it, just measured my belly. I do know they never can be absolutely certain about anything, just thought 39 weeks sounded much better than 40 or more. Good luck to you all.
  • There's a definite possibility u my deliver early. I'm a STM. For my first pregnancy the doc thought I'd deliver early or at least by my due date since I was 1.5 cm dilated. I ended up being induced at 41 weeks, so unfortunately the doc was wrong for me lol....BUT my friend just had her first baby at 37 weeks, 5 days! So it's possible! At her appt she was measuring a week behind and not dilated at all, but she had her baby 2 days later. You never know!

It would be so much easier if we had a pop up timer on our growing bellies to tell us when they are "done". We want our babies and we want them now!!

Yes I realize I got really cheesy with the baby is in the oven reference..
  • With my first they told me the same... I went past my due date...
  • It's normal to go into labor any time between 37 to 42 weeks.

I think there's a "chance" that ANYONE will go a week or two before their due date.  The baby comes when it wants to come...anytime after you hit 37 weeks is fair game.  But you're equally likely to go a week or two late.  I wouldn't read too much into that comment.
