On and off fever/ blood found in urine

okay, so this is probably going to be a bit long winded but I'm worried that something is wrong... My 5 year old son about two weeks ago had a low grade fever off and on for a few days. Then this past weekend he started up the fever again on Saturday and has continued to have a fever off and on since then. I took him in to the doc two days ago because I thought maybe it was a UTI because he has been going pee quite frequently and it seems each time he doesn't go very much. Anyways, they tested his urine and said they found blood but otherwise he didn't have a UTI. They said they were going to culture it and they called me today and said it is negative so what he has is probably viral. It's so weird because everyday he wakes up fine and then about 4pm the fever starts and he complains of a stomach ache. He also had a huge cold sore pop up and he's never had one before, so I know he's fighting something! I'm just worried that maybe the dr missed something since we didn't see our regular doc... At what point do I take him back in to the doctor? It's just been a low grade fever so nothing too scary but I am getting worried something is up.

Re: On and off fever/ blood found in urine

  • If he continues to have the fever over the next few days, I would probably go back to the doctor.

As for the blood, according to this -- https://www.kidney.org/atoz/content/hematuria -- it sounds like you might want to get it tested again in the next few weeks. If it's gone, it's probably not a concern.

    good luck!
