castor oil

I'm 38 wks and 3 days. I'm a ftm and I'm thinking about trying castor oil today. Does anyone know if it works??

  • If you are 38 weeks pregnant you probably shouldnt be doing anything to induce labor. Your baby will come when it's ready.

  • Based on the risk of baby passing meconium in the uterus from side effects of castor oil, I wouldn't want to risk taking it. If you are really wanting to induce, there are better, safer options.
  • It works about 50% of the time, gives you explosive diarrhea and can cause baby to have a bowel movement while still inside. You still have 2 weeks until you're actually due and I wouldn't even do it then.
  • im 40 weeks and 4 days and i am still refraining from caster oil even though it is really hard not to do something when you are over due. i am too concerned me wanting to rush her out could have a negative affect on her. take lots of hot showers to relax take walks that last a half hour several times a day and breath a lot to relax he/she will come trust me i know how hard it is i am also a ftm but its really not worth the risk.
