Blue/Purple finger nails.

Who here is experiencing their finger nails turning dark blue/purple? This just started about 3-4 weeks ago and I've talked to my ob about it and she didn't seem to worried just said to take deep breaths. It does get better if I sit and focus on my breathing, but I was curious to know if anyone else is experiencing this and if so What did your doctor say and what are you doing to help alleviate the issue?

I assume this means your phalanges aren't getting enough oxygen? How do your toenails look?

I don't recall having this issue and don't currently have it. Sorry I'm not any help!

  • It's called Raynauld's Phenomen, is normal and usually doesn't need treatment
  • I know about this syndrome, but I do not have it. Thank you for your reply
  • That's a hefty jump to go straight to a raynauds dx from purple fingers being the only clue here. In my opinion (and I'm an experienced critical care nurse), it sounds like an oxygenation or circulation issue. Keep an eye out for your lips getting bluish and if this happens you need to get your oxygenation checked immediately. If your toes are also bluish id make a guess that your blood volume is being pulled other places to grow baby and your fingers/toes just happen to be the farthest from the heart so they are where you see the issue.
