Hey ladies! What lotion do yall use to prevent stretch marks? I've been wanting to try the "Momma Bee" lotion from Burt's Bee's, but it's hard to find!
I used Palmer's cocoa butter lotion and I still got stretch marks. And I used it religiously. From what I have read/seen since my first pregnancy, it is more genetics than anything. My friend is like 37 weeks and she has no stretch marks at all. She hasn't used any lotion whatsoever. But I have heard great things about Bio-Oil after the fact for minimizing the look if you do get them. Good luck!
I use a combination of Burt's Bee's Mama Butter and Tummy Honey Butter (both can be bought for around $10 on Amazon--much easier than searching in stores!) I use Burt's in the morning, along with my normal B&BW lotion, and then Tummy Honey Butter in the evening as it is rather greasy. I have horrible stretch marks on my breasts already before I started using lotion, so I'm hoping to prevent any on my belly and back (and thighs and more...)
My dr told me that all products that claim to prevent/reduce stretch marks are a complete waste of money. She said it's totally genetics So I'm saving my money for other things

This is true! However, stretch marks (and any skin stretching, even without a mark) is very itchy. So it's good to use a good lotion no matter what It keeps your skin stretchy and helps prevent itchiness.
Lotions and cream may help the itchiness but they don't help with stretch marks, they occur in your dermis layer and cream and lotion can't penetrate it.
Make sure that you are using alcohol free lotions, or you will make the dryness and itching worse over time. I use oil when I'm feeling itchy. Nothing will prevent stretch marks.... except preventing excessive weight gain. Even if you gain normally if you get stretch marks its because your skin simply isn't elastic enough.
There is no way to prevent them, if you are genetically predisposed to them you will get them no matter what. You can help limit the number you get by keeping weight gain within reasonable limits. I only put on 22lbs. with my last pregnancy and wound up with a bunch of stretch marks. The nice thing is, if you get them, they do fade until they are barely noticeable. My DD is almost 18 months and you can hardly tell I have stretch marks. To help with itching, I prefer to use coconut oil.
An oil will penetrate deeper into the skin and help more with itchiness. I like the Mama Bee Belly Oil by Burt's Bees. Stretch marks are mostly genetic though; if you're going to get them, you will, no matter what products you use.
I'm a FTM so I'm going to put in a solid effort to see what I can do in terms of prevention but I really don't think it'll make a difference. However, I do see the process of moisturizing my belly kind of like a bonding experience? Lol just my own thoughts. I've always just used traditional baby lotion for all over, but lately I've been lathering bio oil as well. Regardless of whether it will prevent the marks or not, it makes my skin feel amazing.
I used bio oil in my first pregnancy and has great success. Only a few stretch marks were added to my hips; nothing on my belly. Other mom friends of mine all did well with it and no stretch marks. I'm using it again with this pregnancy;)
I wouldn't waste your money on anything expensive like some PP have said, it is mainly genetics that will cause you to either get or not get stretch marks. The amount of weight you gain will have a lot more to do with the amount of stretch marks than the lotion you use. Skin can get super itchy when stretched though so I would recommend coconut oil. I use coconut oil for everything though so I may be a bit bias
You can't really prevent them but I have been using Mambino Organics Moisture Me Toning Oil (right after my morning shower) and Palmer's firming butter at night to help avoid some of the unwanted pregnancy cellulite that can arise. My skin has been extremely dry so I've tried to be as consistent as possible with lotioning up!
I've been using Mother's Specia Blend oil on my breasts, belly and hips/butt. Stretch marks seem to be genetic bu the oil really helps to keep my skin hydrated and helps with the itchiness!
I have been using The Honest Company organic belly balm... While it claims to prevent stretch marks, I know that it's highly unlikely. I am a STM and escaped my first pregnancy stretch mark free! I used a similar product everyday after bath or shower, so it's probably just psychological for me..
This is my second pregnancy- I'm a fan of palmers- I used religiously with my first and didn't get any. Fingers crossed my stomach can hold out for number two. Trying not to gain too much weight too fast but I'm starving and I love all things edible right now!!
I use coconut oil for my itchy skin. It is super high in saturated fat so it is really well suited as a skin moisturizer. You can't prevent stretch marks but keeping your skin well hydrated (from the inside and out) is more comfortable. I wouldn't waste the $$ on stuff that claims to prevent them.
Super unrelated and just my tired brain... But I read the thread title as "Best LOCATION for Stretch Marks" and my immediate response was NOWHERE!!!! Hahaha!!!!! Wow, I need a nap...
Anyway- I use coconut oil every night after I shower. I really like it, except I HATE the smell of coconut... but I love the way it makes my skin feel.
Another one for regular coconut oil here. It's super affordable, and whether it helps or not in the stretch mark department, it makes my boobs less itchy and my skin feel so nice!
Thanks so much for the help everyone, my skin has been so itchy with my growing belly and everything I tried, I break out in a horrible rash that makes me itch more. I didn't know it was based on genetics. Going back to my normal lotion.
I started using Burts Bees Shea Butter with vitamin E oil and also coconut oil... it's super hydrating and can find it anywhere. Make sure your drinking plenty of water as well. But really what it comes down to is genetics... Unfortunately.
