So I'm in my 30th week, and I am getting scared about... breastfeeding.
The first two weeks of breastfeeding with my daughter were absolute hell (well, at least the first week, maybe it got better after that).
So right now I'm wondering if it would make sense to use some nipple cream in order to prepare for the pain?
I'd be grateful for any recommendations!!

Re: Nipple cream to use while pregnant?
I dislike Lansinoh to a high degree! If its not stored in a very warm environment its so thick and hard to get out of the tube and not at all easy to spread on you...esp if there is any soreness there. My number one pick is Earth Mama Angel Baby. Really all their products are absolutely amazing and non harmful. Check them out. Another good option is coconut oil. Yes, just plain old coconut oil you buy in a grocery store. Its healing soothing moisturizing and non harmful. (I really feel that what goes on your skin goes in your body. Think of the patch type medications they make...you put it on your skin and it absorbs into your body well enough it eliminates the need for a pill/injection etc. So I feel anything you put on your body should be something you would put in your body (eat).)
The main thing with breastfeeding is working on that proper positioning immediately. A big flaw in the beginning is that it feels comfortable to you to hold the baby in a cradling position in the crook of your arm...but way too far off the side of your body. So if right now you pretend to be cradling a baby in your arm...Your elbow is probably not really touching your body. For a good bfing position it should be way over more twords the center of your belly. WHen baby latches on you want more of the bottom of the breast in the mouth than the top. If they are positioned too far off sides they will only be able to grab onto nipple and being its not centered well in the mouth being off the side, it will pull and tug on that nipple the whole time. WHen baby opens up you really want to sort of cram as much breast into the mouth as possible not just let them close down on what they can get in.
Its very important you don't let them start off with a bad latch. It basically becomes what they expect out of breastfeeding and the habit they develop. Remember they have never done this so they are learning. If they learn to only latch swallow on nipple only the motion they use is sort of a chomp using their cheeks to suck. If they learn positioned properly they use more of a forceful message with the tongue and jaw. THats another reason why paci's and bottles can be harmful in the beginning. The require only cheek sucking. The two very different techniques and throw off a good latch technique.
I know I messed it up completely with my daughter because I was completely ignorant and there was nobody to help...
