I need some advice on what y'alls opinion on the dentist this late in the third trimester would be. Let me start off by saying that I am 38 weeks 4 days. And this baby is looking like she will come early (according to the doctors)... SO Im due next Friday, but really any day could be the day. Somewhere in the middle of the third trimester I had a small cavity in one of my molars (I actually think it may have been a filling that fell out). I did my research and found Dr.Google said it is mostly safe to go to the dentist except for the very beginning of the first trimester and the very end of the third trimester. Even still you should avoid the x-rays, which being that they need to establish that it is a cavity, im sure they would do an x-ray.
Now here I am at lunch yesterday, bit something wrong and got a sharp excruciating pain up my face from my tooth. It has obviously gotten much worse. I calmed it down with warm mouth wash and some orajel... But I have to be sooo careful how I eat or drink, nothing can touch the left side of my mouth or it will start up all over again.
What would you guys do...?! Wait it out just being very careful how you eat for the next week and a half or go see the dentist? I really don't want to risk messing something up with the baby by getting x-rays and pain meds at the dentist. But at the same time the tooth pain is really bad with just a tiny bit of cold water going on the wrong side of my mouth. Why oh why did I not take care of this a month ago!!! ugh.
Re: Advice re: the dentist
I really would like to wait. I have kept up my 6 month cleanings. This one popped up in between then and now though. Im sure it is a combination of leaching nutrients and my absolute love for sweets while pregnant
. But to be honest I hate the dentist and fillings anyway. Im sure it'll add stress in addition to the meds to the baby. Plus I can only imagine the horror story of going into labor in the dentist chair. 2 weeks isn't too long to wait to have it looked at is it?
I'm sure if u needed an xray they could do it as long as they doubled up on the shield.

The bottom line is, if you're stressing about the cavity, and having a lot of pain frequently, the stress hormones are probably more of a risk to your baby than anything the dentist would do. Plus, it's not like you're going to have tons of time after the baby comes to go in!
