So I am a FTM and just announced on mothers day. I was expecting to hear some craziness but not this soon!
So far I have heard...

A new mom/co worker tell me that she went into labor 3 weeks early because she is so active but i will probably go wayyy over my due date because I dont do much.

My grandma said she is glad i finally announced because thoes lose tops i was wearing were making me look quite fat.

And a whole lot of "but your not married" or "are you getting married". Even though I've been with my BF for 8 years.

And a whole lot of "was it an accident" or people just being shocked when i say that we were actually trying to get pregnant.

Its amusing at this point but in another 4 months I can see it not being such a hoot. Lol

What have you ladies been hearing now that the news is out?

Since we found out we are having a girl, I've been asked what I'll do it she turns into he... Pull my four year old clothes out of storage and name him Jack! I still have all of my sons baby stuff since we planned on having more - sheesh, think before you speak.

I had my hair done at a new place last week. The woman was so nice, but once she found out I was pregnant she kept telling me these very detailed horror stories about her multiple miscarriages, the many things I shouldn't do while pregnant (wear heels, eat spicy food, squat down, go to the dentist), etc. It was like 3 hours of pure negativity. Granted, she was Chinese and explained that her country has many superstitions about pregnancy. Most of it was pretty ridiculous, but it was kind of unsettling. She almost refused to color my hair until I told her that I asked my doctor, and it was okay.

I had someone tell me today I must be having a boy because I held my hands out palms up when asked.

When I was pregnant with DS, I was told I must be having a girl because I held a coworker's toddler boy and he didn't fuss.

OMG I am in the same boat. Boyfriend and I have been together for 2.5 years. And we talked about babies for 4 months before getting pregnant and also talked about if marriage was something we absolutely needed before we felt like we could have kids. Once we announced, a co-worker of mine asked if he was happy about it? My response, "why wouldn't he be?". Then I was at the eye doctors office and the assistant, who I've known previously, asked the normal questions of what medications I was taking, I said none, and she said "yeah you're not taking birth control anymore, obviously that didn't work". I said, "ACTUALLY, this baby was planned thank you very much". I can't believe the nerve people have. I don't have an issue speaking my mind, but jeeze, I wasn't prepared for all of this.

Someone said you already look SO pregnant! I just smiled and said oh just wait this is nothing!

People told me at 12 weeks I was definitely having a girl because of the way I was carrying.. I had gained 4 pounds at that point, I told them I came out of the womb with these hips and they haven't grown. So awkward!

I have been asked if it was planned twice.

And I work around dairy cattle. A Hispanic immigrant milking at one farm insists that I'm having dos bambinos. I told him no not twins only one baby and he doesn't believe me.

I'm visiting my mom for the first time since I was 6w and she told me, "It's so weird to see you with a chubby face!"

I found most weird comments came from coworkers when I was working through my first pregnancy.

One woman's response to me saying I was pregnant was, "oh, I thought you were looking puffy."

Another coworker insisted my due date was wrong and there had to be twins in there. Or maybe something was wrong with me/baby because how could I be so big??

Another coworker immediately asked if I had any prior miscarriages. I was like WTF?!?

I forgot: I told one friend I'm expecting and she wrote "With your husband??? Was it planned???" Hahaha. I cut her some slack because the last time I saw her we weren't planning on having kids.

I was asked yesterday when I was do and when I said October I was asked if I was sure - and yes, I know my due date.

Today someone asked me if I was excited for next month and when I asked why they looked confused and finally said "aren't you do in a couple weeks?"

The worst was my OB who asked me if I thought it was the best idea to get pregnant now. I am 28, married, we own a home. And yeah, as a resident physician I work a lot and my schedule sucks, but it is really none of her business. I am so happy I changed practices.

Hmmm...weird comments since I announced:

- My maternal grandmother said, "Oh I'm so good! I was just talking to [her husband] yesterday about when you were going to get pregnant and poof, now you are! You're welcome!" Like it was all because she thought it that it became a reality. Oh, she also asked if I was happy about it, to which I responded that if I wasn't going to be happy, I wouldn't be pregnant since I think I've proven through 30 years of being not pregnant that I know how to properly use birth control.

- My paternal grandmother said, "I was actually wondering if you could even have kids." I originally thought she was talking about my age, but it turns out she was referring to the fact that I had thyroid cancer 1.5 years ago and had some radiation treatment. That's all fine and dandy and I understand her comment now, but it does make me question her comment at Christmas when she pointed out all of the pictures of her great-grandchildren in matching frames and told my husband and me that she had extra frames for whenever we're ready to get started (who says that if you think you're talking to someone who cannot have children?).

- When I was about 12 weeks and clearly not showing at all, I had a few people comment on my "bump" and I told them that it was just the same fat I've always had.

- One of my bosses asked me yesterday if I've been eating healthy.

- Another of my bosses, with whom I had not yet discussed my pregnancy, asked me if I had been putting on weight because he thought that was funnier than telling me he had heard I was expecting.

- Yesterday, a coworker who I hadn't seen in two weeks said that she didn't think she should be able to see the baby yet, but that she definitely can

My Dr is the only one who asked.... Actually stated that this was an accident child (it's most definitely not to which I made quite clear) and my mother who I saw for the first time since I started showing asked if I have been staying active because I'm looking 'awfully puffy' then proceeded to ask just how much I have gained. Nonya damn business!

My mother in law said you are going to have a really big belly ( which normally whatever ) but have heard her talk crap on each of my SIL when they were pregnant on how they were too big and must have been eating too much and she was never that big. I can only imagine what she is saying about me .

Someone asked me if "congratulations" or "my condolences" is the appropriate response to our announcement (planned vs unplanned). She also claimed to be pregnant when we told everyone at work and said she would rather not get any "congratulations" because this wasn't her plan. She since has been fired so idk what happened to that mess.

My mom also has the wrong due date/twins theory.

My boss asked "exactly how pregnant are you?" I told him its a yes or no option, not differing degrees of being pregnant. So he asked how much time I have left until its over.

I didn't show much at all until almost 19 weeks so I got a few "Are you sure you're pregnant?" comments.

Now that I have started to show I have gotten, "Your belly is bigger than your butt! Though I guess that isn't saying much."

My husband got a good laugh out of the second comment though which made me able to laugh it off. I was pretty mad at first.

My boyfriend and I were obviously trying our close friends new ect so rumours still managed to go around that I got pregnant on purpose and my boyfriend doesn't want our baby which is totally bullshit! So thank you whoever started that rumour. Probably jealous girl thought they were gonna get him one day mind you we live together and have for a while now why don't girls let up they know he's with me for good.

A classmate came up to me and said "do you have a secret" and looked at my belly (obviously have a bump) and idk why it irritated me but it did so I responded, "is it your business?" He quickly said no, and I responded then there is your answer and then stormed off. I will never understand why people think it's their job to know my business! If I thought you should know I would've told you! (Mind you this all happened at my graduation for my masters, completely put a damper on my day)

I'm 19 weeks and I've gained 7 lbs so far. I feel like 7 lbs is pretty good and I'm still fitting into my pre-bump clothes. I had a coworker today say Wow you're really packing on the pounds!!! like thanks a$$ I thought I looked good but I guess not lol. People, especially men should know by now you never call a woman fat!

Holy shit. Some of these are awful. My mom did tell me "you're looking kind of wide. You saw how I looked before kids...you'll never be the same" WHAT THE HELL MOM. One guy at my office said "sorry you're still pregnant " he meant sorry you're still feeling shitty after I snapped on him. I told one coworker who then announced it and while eating my veggies and brown rice, one lady said " I thought your face looked heavier" I'm 20 weeks and have gained 7 pounds. Eat shit. I've also gotten random tummy pokes and pats. PLEASE DON'T TOUCH ME.

While I'm pregnant I've been lucky and not have people say anything rude to me. But my close friend just found out she is pregnant and due sometime at the end of December. My husband said to her yeah I thought maybe you were you look like you were gaining weight. I smacked him in the back of the head so fast I was so mad for her. I asked him will then what do you think of me? She is Almost 7 weeks and I'm almost 17 weeks granted I've lost 20 pounds. I just wanted to kill him that night. Trust me he got a lecture about what not to say to pregnant women.

As soon as one person found out he told me, Oh! I can see that you're widening out already!... I was 8 weeks pregnant and still my normal weight and size.

Oh! And when I told my oldest brother he was going to be an uncle he replied with, "No, I'm not..." Sorry dude, you're little sister's not 5 anymore. Well, that one was kind of endearing, at least.

Oh! And everyone tells me.. well, you're going to have to get rid of your cat now. What the H?!? I had like 3 cats and 2 dogs around when I was born and guess what?!? I was one of the only kids who didn't pull animal tails! Why does pregnant/ newborn automatically equate getting rid of the most tolerant and friendly cat in the world (seriously, hold him however you want and he doesn't retaliate and he's friendly to the point where he'll just walk into strangers' houses and chill with them for the day whether or not they have children, cats, dogs, anything...)!

Quite a few oops! And all these older men I work with acting like professionals its kind of cute but they say things like you should have gained 10 lbs so far. Or your still pretty small. Oh you should probably not do that! As for family a whole bunch of hoping for a girl eh? We have a boy. And this might be our last we arnt sure but everyone wants us to have a girl. Oh and the you wearing the stretchy pants yet? Lol! That's my favorite. I NEVER wore the stretchy pants with my son I will not be wearing them this time!

After going through IVF I have packed on a few (okay like 30+lbs) and with drugs prepping my uterus for 4 weeks prior to transfer, I was in maternity pants at 10 weeks, with a 2 lbs weight gain. Super excited after 5 years to be carrying a sticky bean.

Probably the worst thing said to me (so far) was my BF comparing me to her athletic SIL who carries small, and another friend who has had MS for 5 months, was: You hopped into those maternity pants a little early. You will be huge if you are starting in them so early!

So mad I could've spit! There was some silent treatment on my part. But what the heck do you say to that??

I don't work right now and don't have many friends and all of these stories have made me so glad not to have rude ignorant people in my life! Sorry you've all had to deal with that kind of crap. I find most of it to be completely unacceptable! I heard awful things withy last 2 pregnancies. Thank goodness I am now only surrounded with a few loving, accepting people who at least have a filter!

Last summer (I wasn't pregnant) while visiting my husbands family his grandmother said I had a chubby face, I think she meant round face which I do but just bad wording. So I'm sure when we visit this summer there will be some more poorly worded comments. Since we don't live by her and she's older it's easier to let it go.
When pregnant with my twins I got a lot of sideways looks because I got married young and look even younger. I got pregnant immediately. I was also living with my parents because my husband was stationed and Europe for the majority of my pregnancy.
About half way through my pregnancy my dad called me fat and when everybody was like what the hell did you just say he back tracked and said I meant you were chubby BEFORE you got pregnant. Yeah thanks dad, by the way I had always been in the healthy range for my weight and only gained 30ish pounds by the time I delivered at almost 35 weeks.
