June 2015 Moms

Breech baby

Just had a regular 36wk appointment to find out our cheeky Bub is breech.
He/she has been head down for weeks but has just decided to flip.

Has anyone had or knows about ECV?
I'm booked in to get it done on Tuesday, and if not successful I'll need to book a c section as no public hospital will perform a breech vag birth. (We can't afford private).

Also any tips that I can do in the meantime to encourage Bub to head south? (Massage, chiro, stretches etc.?)

We were breach, I went and had acupuncture and baby turned the right way. Spinningbabies.com was a website recommended to me
  • My sister in law tried the ECV it didn't work so she had to do the c section at 39 weeks.

A friend of mine did the ECV and it worked.  But she still had to be induced at 42 weeks because she never went into labor on her own.  Afterwards, she swore up and down that even though she wound up in labor for nearly 48 hours, the ECV was the most painful thing she's ever done.

My sister and i were both breech, so i have been expecting that possiblity for myself, and i'm comfortable with just getting the C-Section at 39 weeks.  Baby was breech at 26 weeks and i have a follow up scan at 36 weeks to see if she has flipped...if she hasn't, i'll just schedule the surgery.  I will say that i THINK she has flipped, at least partially...i feel a LOT of activity under my right ribs, so i'm thinking that's a butt and her feet and not a head and hands.  But who knows.  Half the time i swear she's just curled herself up into a little ball right under my ribcage.  which, incidentally, is what she was doing at my 26 week ultrasound (and why i had to have that ultrasound...her position made my fundal measurement high by almost 4 weeks).

I heard there is a hypnobirthing meditation you can do to get it to turn.
  • Search external version
  • My Chiro is very popular with the pregnant ladies in town :) From my understanding the Webster technique gives space and encourages baby to turn down, doesn't actually do the turning. I've also heard good things on the acupuncture from Doulas
  • Jus found out that my baby is breeched too. And I got completely nervous. I have been doing exercise like getting on all fours for about 5-10 min and gave the baby sometime to move but nothing yet. If there are other techniques I would like to know too thank yu

We have had exactly 1 million threads on breech babies. Please search :) thank you
  • There is a thread on May moms and another recently on June but as for me...I had a successful version on Sunday at 37+1. The Dr said the baby wasn't too low in my pelvis and moved fairly easily. Baby was frank breech and the Dr backfliped her on the first try. It was really uncomfortable but I tried to relax and focus on breathing, which made it much easier. The turning only lasted 30 seconds or so with no pain or bruising afterwards. I'm a FTM and I tried the spinning baby exercises for a week or so but didn't have much time prior to the Dr wanting the version at 37 weeks.
  • I did it with DS1. There are a couple other threads here recently where I shared my story, so take a peek if you get a chance.
