Galloping HB at 16 weeks

I just got to hear my baby's heartbeat for the first time and I fell in love all over again! 155bpm and sounded like galloping. Got my gender scan on Sunday so only time will tell if the old wives tales are true! Anybody have any galloping and then found out it was a girl? I'm so impatient! I don't mind what the baby is at all I just want to start shopping properly!

There are several threads on this board about the baby's sex and the heart rate. There seems to be no evidence that high hr= girl, at least from the bumpies on this board.

All baby heartbeats sound like galloping regardless of the sex. I agree it's the best sound in the world.

  • All baby hb sound like galloping :) there is no truth to the heart rate/sex correlation either. Still just 50/50.
  • Thank you everyone. I got told that galloping was a girl and train was a boy? We shall see
  • That's funny. If there was a difference in sex by the sound of a heart beat, there would be no reason to wait until the anatomy scan to learn the sex of a baby because doctors would know early on with a Doppler. People would be saving a lot of money not going to third party ultrasound places for early elective sex scans. It just isn't the case.
  • I know that the sex can't really be accurately guessed by the HB, was just a bit of fun from the old wives tales :) like people say they are right 50% of the time
  • It is fun to guess this way! You'll see each time they check the heartbeat it starts fast early in pregnancy and slows towards the middle where it will hold. I had found a website that analyzed how fast at how many weeks- it was all over the place! Lol
I keep playing too but science spoils the myth!
