Trying to Get Pregnant

How long did you wait after getting off BC to TTC?

I'm 27, DH is 32. I got off BC last September when we were first TTC, and got pregnant before I had my first period. Long story short, it was a (very) early on miscarriage, and our Dr. advised we wait 3 months to try again. By December things had shifted (paying off some student loans became priority). Now we're ready to try again. I went off BC last month, but want to make sure when it happens this time around it actually *sticks*. How long did you wait/are waiting?

Re: How long did you wait after getting off BC to TTC?

  • Got off birth control mid December, started trying in March. More because we wanted a 2016 baby and are bad at math than because we wanted to wait a set amount of time.
  • We didn't wait at all, started trying right away. It took a few months for my cycles to regulate, I got pregnant 3 months after bc but miscarried. So you went back on bc after your miscarriage? Was that to regulate your cycle?

  • I have pretty regular cycles, I just went back on because we didn't have another hard/fast date of when we'd pick back up TTC. We both wanted to pick back up after miscarrying, but my job was very demanding with a long commute/hours and we didn't want to complicate our lives with a baby on top of that. January I left my job to go back to a company I worked for previously with better work/life balance, and April we decided it was time to get the baby train started again :)

  • Hmmm about 3 years :P

Truthfully, I couldn't remember to take the pill so I just stopped.

To address your point, I don't think there's any relationship btwn bcps and MC - I am sorry for your loss though :(

  • I stopped my BC in September last year. Started TTC immediately. Got a bfp on cycle 4 but lost the baby at 12w. Had a d&c March 3rd and now I'm in the middle of cycle 2 after mc.
  • I'm so sorry for your loss :(. Fingers crossed you get your Rainbow soon.

  • Hah, it will have been about two years by the time we start trying.  I just hate HBC.  It killed my mojo, if you know what I mean.

Everyone's different, but, I went off at the end of September and we started TTC in February. September was when my script ran out so I figured that was a good amount of time to let my body regulate a bit. Only reason why we didn't start right away was because we were building a house and wanted to wait until we were moved in and less stressed about it.
  • We went off BC in June and got pregnant in may last go round. It took a few months for me to ovulate after going off BC. I don't think you have to wait on most forms of BC to start TTC.
  • 3 months? Really, I don't remember. It was 4 years ago. I know my Rx was up and I just didn't refill it because our "last hurrah" trip was coming up anyways.

There's no proof that bcp causes miscarriage. Miscarriage is very very common (at least 20%) and is usually caused by chromosomal problems. But many doctors do recommend you wait after a miscarriage. After my miscarriage at 8 weeks and a d&c, my doc said the only reason to wait was to make sure I could date a new pregnancy.
    My TTC History:
    2009: missed miscarriage #1 at 9 weeks (trisomy 16)
    2010: Infertility
2011: Diagnosis and treatment (low sperm count, anastrozole for DH, clomid for me + IUI)
    2012: Baby #1
    2014: Baby #2
October 2015: missed miscarriage #2 at 11 weeks (trisomy 22)
    March 2016 BFP#5, due November 2016.

    My Charts since 2009

  • I had started ttc as soon as I quit taking the pill and was fortunate to get pregnant after one cycle. Like pp said, there isn't a link between time off the pill and having a sticky baby. I just had a miscarriage at almost 8 weeks in March and needed to wait one cycle for dating purposes.

We went off in December in order to start for February, but we figured what the hell (plus condoms are a PITA) and started right away.

I stopped the pill in November and we are officially starting to TTC in June! I wanted time to get everything back to normal and chart a few cycles before we started so we could hit the ground running!

  • I stopped the BCP & started trying that day. It took 13 months.
