UPDATE***No Heartbeat***Measuring small, but good heartbeat?

edited May 2015 in December 2015 Moms
Ok, so I searched on here and most posts about measuring small had very slow heart rates. My situation is different:
I had my ultrasound done on Tuesday and baby looked good with a heart rate of 173, but measured small. According to my lmp, I should have been 9wks 2dys. The baby measured at 7wks 3dys. I know I ovulated late because of opks and so I think I should have been 8wks 5 dys...
My doctor called me yesterday and asked to come in for a follow up ultrasound this coming Tuesday to see how baby is growing and now I'm terrified! If I were in fact only 7wks 3days, I would have gotten my bfp 2dpo... Pretty impossible.

So my question to you ladies is had anyone ever gone through this WITH a good heart rate and what was your outcome?

Also, please say some prayers for my little guy... thank you.

UPDATE:
I went in for my ultrasound this morning and it was not good news. The baby had only grown 2 days and there was not a heartbeat anymore. I will be having a D&C tomorrow.
My husband and I are heart broken, and it's very hard to handle. Please say a prayer for us and our angel.

Re: UPDATE***No Heartbeat***Measuring small, but good heartbeat?

  • I don't have an answer for you but I can tell you during my ultrasound yesterday my dr did two measurements and they had a 4 day difference. One was 6wk5 days and the other was 7wks 3 days. And that was the same visit! Seems like these measurements are not 100% accurate and sounds like you know when you ovulated! Will be thinking of you and good luck!!!

  • Baby measurements are estimated.  They basically place two dots on the screen and the computer tells you the age based on that measurement.  During my 1st pregnany, I always measured in line with my LMP and then I had one where I was a week or so off and I really think it was because the measurements were not inputted correctly.  It is possible that this happened to you.  I wouldn't worry especially because the heart rate was good.

  • I agree, the measurement can fluctuate. I had my first u/s yesterday (10 wks based on LMP) and the first measurement said 9w3d. The second they took said 9w6d. My doctor said she will not change my due date based on that.
The important thing is that it sounds like your baby has a strong and healthy heart rate that's right on target for your calculations! Try not to worry this next week and fingers crossed for a larger measurement next time!
  • This just happened to me! I went in two days ago I should have been like 9w2d but I measures at 8w5d which wasn't that bad but last week we measured one time at 7w4d and then her final measurement was 8w1d so my dates are all off. The only good thing is we saw significant growth and the baby was moving which I didn't think was possible to see till 9 weeks. She measures when it was blurry and she's an older midwife. I think sonogram machines can be off depending on how things are measured. My midwife didn't seem worried and the heart was just a fluttering so we aren't too concerned but it was frustrating. I can't stop wondering how it was so off lol. Here are the images, the top is last week bottom is two days ago and the bottom image is a copy of the original so it's blurry but you can see things getting bigger. Try not to worry too much.
  • I measured a full week behind, but I know I ovulated late. My baby's heart rate was strong and sound at 160bpm while measuring 6w1d. That's actually a very strong heart beat for that time frame, but the tech and my doctor were happy and comfortable with the results, so all is well. As PP said, they are just estimates.
  • This recently happened to me as well. I was supposed to be 8 weeks exactly but it measured 6w3d. I kind of freaked out too! I wasn't tracking ovulation exactly but had a good idea and I'm confused about how this can work too. I've heard lots of stories about things being fine, so I'm trying to remain optimistic and just waiting to see when I get the next US. If I see growth I'll feel much better!! I hope for the best for you too!
  • Thank you so much ladies for your support! This does make me feel better, although I think having a positive outcome on Tuesday will be best! ;-) I'm trying to have a positive attitude, especially with the strong heartbeat! I really appreciate all of you!
  • Yep, I'm in same boat! I had a very strong heartbeat (175) but measured between 3-5 days behind-and I know our dates because we did IVF! My Doctor said my concern level should be "low" but is letting me come back next week just to ease my mind! Fingers crossed for us all!

    Hey lurking from N15
my first us I was 8wk 3 days by lmp but measured 6wk 5day. 7 days later baby measured 8wk 2day. I am now almost 12 weeks, saw the baby yesterday.

  • Wow @ash413! That eases my mind so much! I hope the same outcome for my little guy! Did they continue to monitor you after the second ultrasound?

This week's us was my third us and was just a normally 12 week appointment
Baby grew well and has always had a good HR so my OB didn't think I needed an us in between.
Like I said baby had like 9 or 10 days of growth in just 7 days between my first and second ultrasound and measured 2 days ahead this week based on the measurement from the second us.
Sometimes they are just slow starters.

I knew going into my first ultrasound it would probably be off from my lmp because my periods I have been all over the place since my Mc in October.

  • UPDATE:
I had my ultrasound done this morning. The baby only measured 7wks 5dys and no longer had a heartbeat. I am going to have a d&c tomorrow (since I took progesterone, the doc said it could be weeks if I wait to try to miscarry on my own).
My husband and I are devastated. But we will try again, and God willing we will have our rainbow baby.
Please pray for us and that the surgery goes well and there are no complications.
Thank you all for your support.
  • Praying for your angel baby, and for you to get your rainbow baby soon. Gigantic hugs from a fellow angel babies mommy
  • I'm so sorry. I hope you and you husband heal soon and you get your rainbow baby soon!

  • I'm so sorry mama. I feel awful that you're going through this loss! I will be praying for healing of mind body and spirit and that you recuperate from your D&c fast and are you able to have a rainbow baby soon.

Sweetheart, you might want to change the title of your post to mention that you have a loss because unfortunately I think that this post will probably fall down the pages fast... You deserve to have support! (((Hugs)))
