    Those formula companies know what they are doing by sending out samples! I have heard so many stories from women who say it's 2am, the baby's not latching and screaming his/her head off and then they remember the bottle of formula. They then go tearing through the house looking for it, give it to the baby, baby stops crying and gets a good night of sleep. They never go back to breastfeeding. haha I could totally see myself doing that. I told my husband to hide it from me!
  • The Honest Co makes an organic formula. I haven't tried it, but all their other products have been great.
  • I also plan to breastfeed but feel better having organic baby formula on hand just jn case my milk doesn't come in fast enough. I did some research and found this article helpful https://foodbabe.com/2013/05/28/how-to-find-the-safest-organic-infant-formula/

    This is also a great article on the bad stuff you can find even in organic formula. https://www.paleoplan.com/2014/11-27/paleo-baby-formula-feeding-paleo/
    Baby's Only comes out the winner. There are several make your own formula recipes out there too like by Weston A Price. Obviously a lot more work. I too though am planning to BF and not having alternatives in the house until I know I need them. I've known people to break down and use the emergency can and then regret it. You can look for donor groups in your area too. It seems like we have one which is awesome.
  • I don't know if you have it in the states but in Australia we have one called Bellamy's and everyone says its great. Just might be a good idea to check to make sure it has Omega 3's in it as the organic infant formulas in Australia don't (presumably because they can't guarantee the fish oils etc are organic?) and if you do go to full formula feeding then that could be important. I will be introducing a nightly bottle of formula from first week out of hospital as part of our routine. I didn't introduce one last time and really regretted it, I had low supply but he wouldn't take anything else, so had to breastfeed up to 10 times a day until he was 8 months old, it was just exhausting. Nothing wrong with a bit of formula and baby isn't going to suddenly refuse the breast after one bottle of it, nor will your supply disappear!

    I do plan to breast feed but I'm also having twins so I am preparing myself! Twin moms often have to top up breast milk with some formula and I have NO problem doing that if I have to. I'm not trying to rush off to the store at 4 am because I don't have enough milk to feed my screaming babies

    I'm right there with you. I'm gonna try to bf my twin girls too but am very thankful for the sample cans I received in the mail. I will also take extra formula from the hospital if they give it to me. There is so much more to worry about than which way to feed your baby. I'm just gonna try to keep DH, the twins and myself alive ;)
  • @Emilywooddesign and @jjvanwagner25 it takes a while to get your supply up to feed two. I had to supplement from the beginning, and there is nothing wrong with that!

    @klkonwi and @amhowell14 A freaking men!

    Most hospitals will send you home with formula samples of you ask them. Mine will give you what your pediatrician or what you prefer.

    It's okay if you break down and use your emergency can if your going insane! Let's take some pressure off !!!!!!!! Using your emergency formula does not mean that you will not put your child back on the boob or quit pumping. If your dedicated to doing it you will. Let's def take the pressure off of these moms...... There's enough to go crazy about and the kids aren't even out yet!!!!!

    I thought if you use formula it means your child won't get into college?
    Didn't you hear... The first formula kid was just accepted into medical school! There still hope for my kids...hahaha!
  • Depending on where you live, and if it's shippable, Canadian formula does not have anything even remotely like corn syrup in it.  My American friend talked to me about the stuff down there, and I couldn't believe it and compared labels of the SAME brands in both countries - I'm flabbergasted the power the big food industries down there have to put whatever they want in your food.  Good luck bf, and good luck finding the best formula you can get if it doesn't work out.  (I had a reduction years ago, so still waiting to see if I can bf - I have a can of formula on back up as well.)
