Pre-natal Depression & Anxiety

What are you doing to make yourselves feel better day-to-day?

I was recently told by an "expert" I may be experiencing pre-natal depression which is not good (ie: high-risk for postpartum depression)

I think we all generally feel like poo though and I may be missing out on some technique to help this drab feeling day-to-day. I feel bloated, hairy, ugly, swollen and acne faced and most of all reallllly low. Is there anything out there I should be doing to boost my morale and self esteem? I need HELP!

Re: Pre-natal Depression & Anxiety

  • I feel like I have this again as well. Had it with my first and then had post partum depression. If I sit at home all day doing nothing which I want to do all the time it makes it's worse. When I get to the gym in the morning and do things with my daughter it makes me feel a little better. I'm alone a lot tho so it's still hard.

  • Sorry you are going through this. I had postpartum anxiety and depression. I've always had anxiety, it just increased pretty greatly after my daughter was born. I had slight depression, but it as the lesser issue. I ended up going on Zoloft but wish I had tried therapy first. Maybe try that? Pregnancy is such a big change and (sorry to scare you) newborns are an even bigger and harder change. So trying to learn ways to cope now before baby gets here might be very beneficial to you and reduce your chances of postpartum depression/anxiety. Also every doctor will tell you to exercise and get outside to boost your mood. It definitely helps me, it's just hard to get started.
  • Getting up and out of the house is huge for me.  Taking walks around the neighborhood and interacting with people despite the fact that I'm pretty introverted and self conscious helped me a lot.  Exercise helps release endorphins that your body isn't creating or absorbing very well when you're depressed.  Even light exercise can be helpful.  Vitamin D (found in sunlight or pills) can be helpful too for mild depression and may help stave off a slide into major depression.
