Get out the caster oil!!!

let the hate begin! Haha I'm so very much over the whole pregnancy, in and out of labour for the past 3-4 weeks, 4cm dilated for the past week and yet NO BABY! this mumma is soooo over it! So I've followed what seems to be a pretty common trend and got stuck into some castor oil. 2 table spoons with pineapple juice.. This was an hour and a half ago, I do believe it either goes 3 ways, you either sh*t, vomit or have a baby.. Or all of the above if you're really lucky! So far all I've found is that it has increased my Braxton hicks contractions.

Anyone tried the good old castor oil, was it successful?

I did with my son when I was 4 days over due and 2cm and 90% effaced 2 tablespoons nothing happened and than 12 hours later I had bad diherea

I tried it again twice with this pregnancy the doctors aren't quite sure of my due date this time but say I could have baby any minute I'm 3cm and 70% effaced both times I drank 2 tablespoons and had to shit exactly 1 hour later and than again in another hour and 4 hours after taking 2 tablespoons had cramp like contractions for about 5 hours and than everything stopped :/ the second time I went on 3 mile walk during the small contractions and it helped but still no baby!

I know alot of people have had success with CO just not me :(

  • I've heard castor oil makes the baby poop...so be careful
  • Castor oil can create very strong contractions which stress the baby out and can cause them to poop as a reaction to the stress. The oil doesn't affect the baby at all. If it doesn't bring on strong contractions for you then there is no risk to baby.
Anything that increases the intensity of natural labour can have the same effect, including pitocin.
  • My midwife actually does castor oil prior to scheduling a medical induction. So I guess they must find it works for a lot of women, or at least feel it's worth a try to get your body going naturally

    Daisypath Anniversary tickers
  • Mine recommends it before medical induction as well.
  • I did! I was 3 cm 80%. Drank 2 tablespoons. Drank it at 6:40 pm. Water broke 10:10. He was born at 10:48!! It was FAST! No time for epidural. ( it was my 3rd)
  • Still waiting! I had the CO at 4:50pm woke up with contractions, really bad lower back pain and cramping. Called the hospital at 1:20am as the pains increasing but was told not to bother leaving the house until I'm atleast 3 minutes in between contractions. Let's hope this doesn't take days!
  • Both my previous two kids are castor oil babies. I took 1-2 tbsp and chased it with pepsi because it is so gross. It worked like a laxative, but since I took so little, I didn't get the vomiting shits. I was in labor with ds within 8 hours and had him in less than 24. With dd I was in labor in 5 hours and had her about 6 after that.

From what I can tell, castor oil only works if you're almost ready anyway. And the baby pooping thing is a myth. There are no scientific studies to support it. The real risk is of dehydration if you do get the vomiting shits. Be careful and do what works for you!
  • I took it with my first at 40 weeks and it did absolutely nothing except give me awful shits.

He was stubborn though and waited til 42 weeks
  • I did at 39 weeks and walked a few miles and had mine the next day, no shits or vomiting. He came out perfectly healthy

I tried it with my daughter. I was 41 weeks + 4 days. It made me vommit, and it went into labor the next day.
  • I'm getting close to giving this a try.
  • Lots of painful cramps/contractions throughout the night no vomiting or diarrhoea and still NO BABY!!! Ugh looks like I'll be going for an induction in 10 days ;(
