I'm due the endings of June with my first child, I'm going to deliver my baby girl at Kaiser. Any suggestions/tips/opinions about Kaiser Permanente maternity?
I'm delivering at a kaiser near me. It used to be horrible there but now it's pretty amazing. I think it depends what location you are in. I know they ask have a birthing center near me and I have that option if I'd like.
I live in Los Angeles, this is my first time delivering or even being in a hospital other than my check ups. I was just curious because i hear pros & cons about kaiser.
You might do better on a local board considering the people here are from all of the world. Not just the states. And b/c I'm in Texas and have never heard of that hospital.
The Kaiser system is pretty great in general but there are variations in staff, rooming and new vs old equipment, just like any other hospital, I suppose. I've had many friends deliver at Kaiser Santa Rosa and no complaints from them, same with Kaiser SF. I personally hated Kaiser Walnut Creek's L&D when I went for a betamethasone shot, which is why I'm planning to deliver at Kaiser Oakland even though it's a little farther away from me. Kaiser Oakland just got redone and their birthing suites are phenomenol and I really liked the staff after my experience being hospitalized for high blood pressure. I also heard Kaiser Antioch is newish but not as new as Oakland. At the end of the day, the most important things are if your practitioner will be on staff and if you get your own room postpartum. Everything else, like showers in your birthing suite and knowledgeable staff should come pretty standard at any Kaiser hospital.
I think once you go to the tour you will have a better feel for how it will be. The one I am delivering at has all separate rooms now and they are very pro helping you with your birth plan and pro natural births if it's what you choose. They don't have tubs or yoga balls but that's ok. Also, the last day of the stay they provide a "romantic" dinner for the new parents which I thought was sweet. They also don't take the baby to the nursery unles there's a medical need for it. I also like that it's very quiet and private.
I am going to Kaiser Roseville and did the tour and everything was amazing. Showed us the steps, where you check in, the room they will check you before they admit you, the L&D room (which was huge, had private bath with shower) and the recovery room. I have had many other moms deliver there and they loved it.
Hey I'll be delivering at Kaiser Roseville too! I was also born and raised a kaiser baby and I've always had positive experiences with them. I'm not sure how the hospitals are down in LA but up here in Sacramento I've had only good experiences and there are private labor rooms. Good luck to you!
With Kaiser I've generally had good experiences. With my first I had him at the Harbor City facility and it was hit or miss with the doctors and nurses as far as care when I was pregnant and during/after delivery. With my second I had him at the Kaiser LAMC hospital. Even though it's a lot busier than harbor city, I've had a great experience with just about everyone there. The staff that helped me are very caring, competent and knowledgeable. This includes my experiences with my MFM, OB's, L&D, postpartum and the NICU.
