amniotic fluid

Has anybody had too much amniotic fluid? I do and have to have an ultrasound once a week til he's here, or the fluid goes down. Just makes nervous. They say the baby is fine, I know I'm just worrying, but I'd like to hear other experiences regarding this!

Re: amniotic fluid

  • what risks does having too much fluid cause?

I have a "normal high" amount of fluid. My baby is completed healthy and fine. It was explained to me that I may hear or even feel a pop when my water breaks, and that I will probably feel a large gush. Also, it was mentioned that there may be a risk of the cord presenting first, but because my placenta is high and so is the cord they aren't worried about it. They just think I'll have a small baby, which I am expecting anyway. I wouldn't worry, but I would chat with your doctor about it to get more insight and see what he/she thinks. Good luck!
  • Mine is high one week and normal the next. They just make me go in for bpp on a regular basis. The reason why doctors freak is because it can raise your risk of still birth to 4 out of 1000. The normal rate is 2 out of 1000.
  • My OB told me this morning that GD patients and normal diabetics tend to have higher levels of AF.

Mine are at a 12. I guess anything between 5-10 is good... again, just heard this at my appointment this morning.

  • As of last week Baby B has fluid of 9.74 and they aren't worried unless it gets between 20-25 or extremely low.

I get concerned that my doc never measures my amniotic fluid.......... He barely said anything about it at the 20 week US ..... And the one I just had he just real quick popped it on to make sure baby was head down..... Anyone else?! Great now I have some new thing to worry about lol
  • @klkonwi : Nope, I have no idea what mine is, either!....haven't had US since 20 wks. As long as baby is moving fine and normally for you, I don't think there is cause for worry...?
My friend had a high level of fluid with her last, and she always says now that he doesn't like to be cuddled, swaddled, or otherwise confined (like in a bassinet) because he had so much room in utero!
  • Mine is at a 30. I keep asking and they keep saying it's fine. They just make me go in for weekly ultrasounds. Just worries me. Every little thing freaks me out. Haha. I just want him to be ok. These next 5.5 weeks are gonna either go by super slow or super fast.
